Apparently, Kianoush is having VISA issues so he may not be able to attend the World Championships. It seems like he is very focused on the Kermanshah earthquake right now but does anyone have more information about whether he will be at worlds?

We worked closely with the IRI WF to re-apply for the visa after the previous 214b denial.
Last Thursday the passport was requested back to the Embassy, they will collect those Sunday (first day of opening in Dubai after Thanksgiving), we will know 100% at that point if Kianoush Rostami has the visa, but our understanding is that he has been approved.

^ That is great news.
Moradi and Rostami are absolute locks at winning gold at these World Championships.
The most dramatic weight class will be the 105+KG. It is going to be a battle between Salimi and the Georgian Talakhadze who owns the overall total world record for this weight.
Iran should win medals in all 4 weight classes it has lifters in, especially since several 'big name' weightlifting countries are banned from competing at these world championships.

85 KG (12-3-2017; 11:55AM PT)
Ali Miri
Kianoush Rostami
94 KG (12-3-2017; 3:25PM PT)
Seyedayoob Mousavijarahi
Sohrab Moradi
105 KG (12-4-2017; 5:25 PM PT)
Alireza Soleymani
Ali Hashemi
105+KG (12-5-2017; 5:25 PM PT)
Behdad Salimi
Saeid Alihosseini
Kianoush Rostami and Sohrab Moradi are favorites for gold. Hopefully they can separate themselves on their first attempts and go for world records on their third attempts. Ali Miri is an exciting new young lifter for Iran in the 85s. He is only 22 years old. He previously won gold as a 77kg lifter at junior worlds.
The battle for medals between Talakhadze (Georgia) and Behdad and Saeid in the 105+s will be incredible.
Hashemi recently moved up to 105s, which suits his bodytype better. Him and Alireza both have a chance for a possible medal in the 105s.
For background, many top nations (Russia, China, Kazakhstan, etc.) are banned from this world championships due to steroids. So the competition is relatively weak. But it is in Anaheim, which is 45 minutes from LA, so hopefully the Iranian fans take over the place! If you live in the US, the A sessions are being aired on ESPN 3.
