    Standard Cricket venues in Iran

Cricket is relatively a new game in Iran and one of the most unpopular. It is the most popular sport in Sistan va Baluchestan province. Due to lack of International Standard cricket venues in the country, Iran has never been able to have the national teams host other national teams in International Matches. Iran has hosted international tournaments but these have been minor only regional or club sides from Pakistan, Hong Kong or reserve teams such as Afghanistan reserve team participated in those tournaments which were hosted in non-standard venues in Sistan va Baluchestan or Azadi Pitch 4 in Tehran. The very first standard venue was being built in Chabahar in Sistan va Baluchestan however there has been no progress with its construction! Last week I came across some good news, Naghe Jahan Stadium in Esfehan will have a standard cricket ground. Once completed it means Iran national men's, women's and under-19s can host national teams from other countries in International matches[List A, T20, etc]. Both Iran's women and under-19s have been making progress in continental tournaments. Men's team has a long way to go to reach top level.

Anyways here is the news article.

This is the old news article about building a standard venue in Chabahar.

I never understood this sport. I tried watching it a couple of times and reading the rules. I got absolutely zero enjoyment from both those activities. It has so little support apart from South Asia and the former British colonies.

Its a sport which doesn't line up well with our pace and temperament, but if there is a sizable fan base, then its only fair to build some facilities for htem as well.

However, I wouldn't count on anything at Naghshe Jahan being built. There are stadiums and entire complexes in Iran which started much later and have finished earlier than the cash cow which is Naghshe Jahan.

Baseball is (was) a lil bit more famous in Iran. In the 70ies some folks were playing baseball to look cool like the Americans in eye-ran from TAS (Tehran American School)
Cricket is only played by former British Colonies, which aside of Australia are Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, West Indies etc etc... Do we want to mix with those folks?
I find Baseball more fun than cricket.
I heavily object Iran playing a sport, that is a sign of a “thankful” British Colony lol, which doesnt even apply to us.

Rugby I dont mind since many nations play it but not cricket.
sorry I have a stark opinion on this!

Our hamzabans "Afghanistan" are making progress and already are among the giants of cricket. They participated in one World Cup and many International Tournaments already. Their best players played in top leagues Pakistan, Bangladesh and now some in India as well.

It is good for Iran to become good in this sport. Iranian women's team have proved that they have talent in this sport, the players are mostly from outside of Sistan va Balouchestan [they are from Mashhad, Bushehr, Kerman, Shiraz, Tehran and Kermanshah]. Our Under-19 Men's are mostly from Sistan va Balouchestan. Since our Balouch are not represented in our sporting teams it would be good to turn Iran national team into a power in this sport and make our Balouch people proud of their achievements.

Yes, Iran Rugby should improve, they have been no match for likes of Philippines, Lebanon and some other asian teams.

OK, so I add Afghanistan to that list too then.
Do we want to do a sport associated with India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, West Indies aside of Great Wonderful Britain and Australia?

Why anyway? We don't have any association with British Empire? Cricket are as I said being played by "Thankful Nations to British Empire (God save the Queen lol)" + AFGHANISTAN now. I don't want us to be associated there.

              That's my opinion...

I like Baseball far more, its more fun and less boring and many countries in Latin/South America and Asia are playing it...
To me Cricket: No Thank You!

PS: again, that's my opinion, if you guys like it, go ahead, but don't call me to watch your game, I will come to boo you all

I used to watch and enjoy it. I also used to play with friends. Pakistan was always my favourite team with so many great players Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Salim Malik, Inzamam Ulhaq, Wasim Akram, Ramiz Raja, Waqar Younes. Later on Shahid Afridi. They would defeat your Great Wonderful England and Australia

Well you are right mostly the top nations who participate at World Cups are from the British Commonwealth, countries you missed in your list New Zealand, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Namibia, Bermuda, Canada, Scotland, Ireland. Also two non-Commonwealth nations such as UAE and Netherlands.

There are also some countries who are permitted by ICC to play Test/One Day Internationals such as Oman, Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea.

All other countries are rookies and only lay in regional tournaments

                Cricket > Baseball

Our Balooch people feel brotherhood with Pakistan. Thanks to Pakistan for helping Iran with cricket. The Pakistani coaches of Men's and Women's team did a fantastic job with our teams. Also Pakistani advisors are guiding Iran on how to make the sport big in the country.

Iran did help Pakistan many years ago. I think it was during Khatami's presidency. If I remember correctly was with Pakistan U23 team or youth level. Iran Football Federation sent some instructors/trainers or something. You are a Pakistani and you already know about the mess Pakistan Football Federation has had since the 1990s. Even now Pakistan Football Federation is a mess, last game they played was back in 2015 if I've not mistaken. There is too much focus on cricket in Pakistan that has led Pakistan lose her power status in other sports such as Hockey, Squash, Wrestling, Boxing and Football. If Pakistan asks for help Iran will do. Iran asked Pakistan for help with Cricket and Pakistan accepted.

Baseball > Cricket without a doubt. Actually, almost any other sport > cricket.

Cricket is already so boring and add in the fact that matches can be 4 days long... no thank you.

I think it's the first time I'll have to disagree with you. Test matches can be boring indeed for people who are new to cricket. But one days or Twenty20s are way more interesting than baseball in my opinion.

BTW Pakistan was also my favorite team, haven't seen much these last years. But they had so many good players like Afridi. Unfortunately I was too young to see Imran Khan playing but from the videos I've seen he was a beast. Another player I enjoyed watching was the Sri Lankan Malinga and his unusual pitching style.

As for Iran, obviously the game is popular in baluchestan and even Khorasan. We should follow Afghanistan's steps to become a good nation in cricket. They developed very well within the last 7-8 years. Even though I think it's mostly due to people's mentality which is different from us, Iranians. The game became popular because many afghans are trying to associate themselves to Indians.
