    Iranians for Friday

Canoe Sprint: tomorrow will be preliminary round in 3 events for Iran. all of our athletes/teams will go to the final for sure.
Cycling Track: two more events to complete the Cycling program. men's Keirin and men's Madison. we have the defending champion in Keirin in Mohammad Daneshvar but that was just an accident and he didn't improve since then. miracle doesn't happen twice. but we have realistic chance for medal in Madison. this is our last chance for medal in cycling.
Judo: Javad Mahjoub is our only competitor tomorrow. he has a good draw until the semifinal where he faces Mongolia. this is quite a winnable match. I expect him to go to the final. our athletes look in a great shape in Judo so far.
Sailing: finally last day of Sailing competition.
Sambo: we have two athletes in start of Sambo competition. personally I don't expect anything here based on previous results but who knows !? this is a weird/new sport. everything is possible.
Sepaktakraw: last group match for quad team vs Singapore. this is like a knockout quarterfinal match. a win here will secure Iran's first ever medal in Sepaktakraw. both teams lost narrowly to Vietnam today. I think Singapore is slightly favorite here.
Table Tennis: Alamian brothers both face very top opponents in 1/8 finals tomorrow. Nima vs Japan and Noshad vs Korea. it will be a huge upset if they beat these high rank players.
Water Polo: semifinal vs Japan. there is no chance against very strong Japanese team. we have to prepare for the bronze medal match.

in general I think only Javad Mahjoub and Cycling Madison team are our realistic chance for medal tomorrow. I won't surprise if we finish the day with nothing.

South Korea, Thailand, Taiwan and Japan are quite active in Kabaddi and the last time I checked South Korea is not in Central Asia.

Kurash yes, not much active outside of the region but at least we had something like 20 countries participating in Kurash. while in Pencak Silat that was only Iran, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan outside of Southeast Asia to participate.

TEHRAN, Aug. 28 (MNA) – The head of Iran's National Olympic Committee (NOC), Reza Salehi Amiri said that Indonesia’s medals in the unknown and indigenous sport of pencak silat is a gift from Olympics Council of Asia (OCA) and Iran will officially protest against these medals in OCA.
The act of OCA to recognize pencak silat and its medals in the final medal count of Asian Games is unjustifiable, irrational and totally unfair, he added.

Iran has already verbally protested to the OCA President Sheikh Ahmed al-Fahad al-Ahmed al-Sabah, Salehi said, adding that the president answered that ‘this kind of privilege would also be granted to Iran if games are held in the country’. This answer is not convincing, Salehi highlighted.

These medals led to a significant increase in Indonesia’s ranking from 17 in 2014 Incheon to 4 in 2018 Jakarta and OCA should be deemed responsible for this, he added.

For each discipline, hundreds of athletes compete to reach Asian Games, and dozens try to win medals during the Asiad, and the fact that the host country can easily win numerous medals is very regrettable, the Iranian official noted.

The 18th edition of Asian Games is underway in Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang. Iran’s 4th place in medals table was taken by Indonesia after winning 10 gold medals in the indigenous sport of penak silat.
So there is hope for the Chelo Kabab competition?!

of course we always knew that. and actually Iran got better results in world tournaments. mostly the officiating is better there.

our Karateka did great here. I think except Taravat Khaksar the rest could win the gold. Mehdizadeh and Poursheib got robbed big time. Abbasali lost by a mistake to the World Champion and Pegah Zangeneh lost 0-0 by Hantei to eventual gold medalist.

the thing is, the qualification in Karate is VERY tough. it will be hard to even qualify for the Olympics. Karate is a world wide developed sport.

Not interested in a big argument here, but that makes 3-4 (not sure to count Taiwan) countries that participate in Kabbadi and have no direct roots in it and on the other side 3 countries that participate in Pencak Silat without being traditionally connected to that sport - seem pretty even to me. Anyway, I get your point, but in the end everybody can see that Indonesia hasnt even been in the top 10 for the last 6 editions/24 years and this ranking is due to them being hosts. To sue them seems a little bit over the top, especially with this super childish tone of the article.

            That just sounds plain stupid.

Looks like it, but even then Iranian players somehow will lose in the final or disqualified for using too much Somagh..

or more likely the referees will screw us up for not executing Chello Kabbab eating methods correctly!

It was going to finish as a "bad day" but Noshad Alamian made history. probably the biggest positive upset of this Games for our delegation. he made it into the semifinal and secured a medal in table tennis.

Noshad will receive his medal tomorrow so technically we finish the day without a medal. Mahjoub had some bad calls in both of his matches, the Uzbek guy did exactly what Mollaei did yesterday but of course no shido for him. double standard. our cycling is disastrous. even worse than that.

here is the list of Iranian athletes for the last day of the Games

Basketball: Final vs China. on paper we are the favorite but personally I think China is slightly favorite here. but we played great in semifinal . if we do the same gold will be ours.
Canoe Sprint: we have 4 finals tomorrow. I believe there is no chance in men's K1-200m. also our chance is probably slim in men's C2-200m. Arezoo Hakimi has a good chance to repeat his bronze medal from 2014 in women's K1-200m. but our best chance for medal comes in women's K2-500m. I expect 2 medals. and again gold is highly unlikely.
Sambo: today was disastrous , I don't expect any change for tomorrow but Iraj Amirkhani won bronze last year in Asian Indoor Games (with more or less the same level as here) so maybe there is a slim chance for him.
Table Tennis: Noshad Alamian will play his semifinal vs a great player from China. of course nobody expected him to go further. bronze will be a great result for him.
Triathlon: this is our debut in this sport. but our lone competitor has no chance here.
Volleyball: final vs South Korea. from what I saw. South Korea is a below average team. it will be a huge surprise if we lose this.
Water Polo: bronze medal match vs China. both teams lost to Japan and Kazakhstan, we lost by 4 to Kazakhstan, China by 1. we lost by 11 to Japan. China by 8 . so it seems we are 3 goals behind China ! obviously our chance is very slim. but they trained the whole year thinking about this match against China as they knew at the end they have to play China for bronze.

so we already have 58 plus 3 more already secured in basketball, volleyball and table tennis. with 1 or 2 more . we will finish the Games with 62 or 63 medals.

We are currently witnessing a revolution in Iranian football. Team Melli has never been stronger than it is today, and we will only get better.

What's our excuse for losing our 5th place in the medal tally to Uzbekistan on the last day of the games.

Are we, as one of the larger nations, so useless?

Uzbekistan got their 20th gold. We will probably finished 6th now unless Uzbeks stop and we get basketball gold.

It’s over. They also got a Gold in Sambo which means we can’t finish 5th anymore no matter what.
