    ^^ Thanks for the info.

If China (Tao )is absent in weightlifting then Rostami will be in my top 10 list. Still there is a chance that he screws up by being arrogant and choosing retarded weights!

There is always a first for everything. I think one of Mansourian sisters, most likely Elahe will break the chain and win us gold against China.

Disappointed about our wrestling status to be honest. Never recall such weak team since starting to watch the sport 25 years ago.

Pretty huge news for Iranian Weightlifting! For the first time ever, Iranian Female weightlifters will be competing at the youth/junior Asian weightlifting championships!!![emoji1130][emoji1130][emoji1130]

I just wonder what they are going to wear. This example by Egyptian weightlifter, Sara Ahmed is acceptable.

But loose clothing would not be allowed per IWF rules. This is an example of a Iranian female weightlifter.

I’m not sure if that type of clothing would be allowed.

Nevertheless, hope they can succeed! [emoji1377][emoji1130]

Blame everything on Cricket. All attention on cricket and nothing else!

You were among Top 10 Football teams in the 1950s, in the 1960s still strong, then weakened after Bangladesh separated and forgotten in the 1990s due to Cricket's glory.

Squash, Weightlifting and Wrestling you were good but no more. Singapore, Malaysia and some South East and East Asian countries are much better in squash now.
Weightling and Wrestling you don't stand a chance against likes of Iran, India, Mongolia, Japan, the two Koreas and Central Asian countries.

Your only strength is Cricket, Kabbadi, Boxing and Hockey.

Athelitics and Tennis also, we had the fastest man of Asia Abdul Khaliq and the No 1 Asian Tennis(first asain in top 50) player Haroon Raheem back in the days.

Apparently one of our footballer in the 60s Masood Fukhri was the first Asian to play in England for Bradford, don't know thats true or not

based on the list of players they are going to register, Iran will definitely send the B team to the volleyball competition. still no coach for that team doesn't sound good for Iran to defend the gold medal.

We are very wrong if we think Alipour winning the gold in Sport Climbing is a sure thing. not because he is not good enough, but because accident happens A LOT in this speed event. one happened today for him, during the 2nd World Cup. he lost the QF to a Chinese guy because of that

you can watch it here at 22:00

Disastrous new, Mostafa Salehizadeh, Asian Champion in Greco-Roman Wrestling, who was a sure gold for Jakarta 2018 and to me a 90% medal (and even possibly gold) for Tokyo 2020 tested positive for doping during the Asian Championship few weeks ago and will face a long time ban. we still have a good wrestler Heidari here but Salehizadeh was much much better.

I will write more about the wrestling trials later after the competition but I'm a bit disappointed with Greco results, I have to lower my prediction about our chance in Asian Games in wrestling. for example another possible gold medal is gone at 130kg Greco after Mehdizadeh losing twice today and finishing 3rd. but let's wait till Friday then we can have our possible squad for Jakarta.

Yeah I was very upset about Salehizadeh. He looked like a beast in Asian champs.

so if we are going to send all the trial winners. our wrestling team for Jakarta will be something like this

                        Freestyle
57: Reza Atri, he is good and getting better but this weight is really hard in Asia. I predict a bronze maximum
65: Hassan Moradgholi, he is no good and we don't have any better wrestler. even a bronze will be a great result for him.
74: Mostafa Hosseinkhani, he is the best we had. there is no great wrestler in this weight in Asia, we have 3-4 good wrestlers the same level as Hosseinkhani, I give him 30% chance for the gold but he usually chokes in important moments.
86: Hassan Yazdani, he is a sure Gold medal
97: Alireza Goudarzi, he beat the pre-tournament favorite Goleij quite easily but he doesn't have a good record outside of Iran. but there is only one good wrestler in Asia from UZB. I expect silver or bronze for him but who knows, with his strong body he may break the curse and beat that Uzbek Guy.
125: Parviz Hadi, without Ghasemi, he was clearly the better wrestler and won the competition, there is an Uzbek wrestler (former Olympic silver medalist from Georgia) in this weight plus another Georgian representing Qatar and few more good wrestlers from China and Kazakhstan BUT I believe Hadi if in shape can beat all of them. I give him 30-40% chance for the gold.

                        Greco
60: Mehrdad Mardani, he is the best we have in this weight, he is a tough guy but this weight belongs to the Asian wrestlers. even gold medal is not impossible for him but I won't be surprised if he loses in 1st round in Asia. the level is so high in this weight. but he has his chance at least for a bronze.
67: Mohammad Reza Geraei, he is the younger brother of Mohammad Ali Geraei, he is good but didn't convince me to be honest. he has a chance for medal but you can't bet on him. we also have Mohammad Eliasi (last year 5th place at the worlds) who was injured. an extra trial between them is not impossible.
77: Pejman Poshtam, well not my choice at all. he beat world bronze medalist Mohammad Ali Geraei to win the trials, despite that I still would give the spot to Geraei, he is clearly the better wrestler. Poshtam is also tough and has his chance but Geraei will be a gold medal chance.
87: Hossein Nouri, far from convincing but still he won the competition, Asia is a bit weak in this weight, Nouri is the clear favorite for the gold , he is also a two time Asian Champion.
97: Ali Akbari Heidari, with Salehizadeh out, he is our best chance, he is good and has a chance even for the gold medal, he has a good chance actually but Salehizadeh was a sure gold. I expect a medal at least for Heidari.
130: Mehdi Nouri, in battle of "doing nothing and waiting for cautions" Nouri beat both Mehdizadeh and Ghourehjili. but I'm still not sure if they give him the spot. you know we can't count on foreign referees to give cautions in favor of us. I doubt Nouri can even win a medal. Mehdizadeh is still a better choice. he usually wrestles better outside of Iran.

as a summary, if we are going to send these guys I'm afraid I won't expect more than 3 or 4 gold medals in wrestling. (my initial prediction was 5) nobody is unbeatable in Asia, all those 12 gold medals are not impossible to win for us though.

Iran had a horrible performance in Asian Taekwondo champs 2018 and won only 1 gold in men and women combined.
I should reconsider my prediction of gold medals for Asian games I guess.

unfortunately that wasn't unexpected. we are not a super power in Taekwondo anymore. I have to say I was expecting one gold from either Hadipour or Khodabakhshi but Bakhshi won a surprising gold medal in the last day. which gives us a bit hope for a new start to rise. but I have to add that South Korea has a legend in this weight Lee Dae-hoon who was absent but since they sent the rest of their A team I assume this guy is probably injured or something. Lee DH is the best male Taekwondo athlete in the world right now.

Farzan was OK losing by just one point to his archrival Kim Tae-hun. but then he had two close wins before the final. this is a tough weight in Asia but still we can count on Farzan for a medal but for the gold he has to beat this Korea guy. Khodabakhshi was the biggest disappointment here losing to a guy from Jordan ! this is the weakest weight in Asia and Korea is no good here, this is our best chance for the gold in Jakarta.

Kimia Alizadeh was disastrous here losing to a below average athlete from Vietnam and that's not even an Olympic weight class, for the Asian Games she has to move up to 67kg making things even harder for her but I still believe she can do something, remember she is coming back after a long injury. she still needs time. we had some interesting results in girl's side. Nahid Kiani is our second best athlete behind Kimia, she finished 2nd and lost the final by only 2pts to Korea. she is not that far from the world level. and in superheavyweight youngster Pouresmaeil beat the Olympic Champion but lost to another Chinese athlete in semifinal to settle for bronze.

we also won couple bronze and silver in Poomsae events, we will have four Poomsae competitions in Jakarta. I believe we will win 2-3 medals but gold is unlikely. here is what I think about our chance for each weight

LOL yeah my post was longer, but I deleted that part myself. my post was already long enough.

in short I believe we have chance for medal in all 14 Taekwondo events. but if you want the gold , our best chance is men's 80kg and then 63kg. I also want to give chance to Farzan at 58kg. there is also slim chance for +87kg. despite winning the gold at 68kg, I don't think there is a chance for gold, the Korean Lee Dae-hoon is well and ready , he just won the gold in World Grand Prix yesterday.

in the women's competition, Alizadeh is still our best chance but she has to improve A LOT if she wants to win the gold in Jakarta. she won't be seeded in new weight , this is possible to even get Korea or China before the quarterfinal and go home empty-handed. Nahid Kiani also has a good chance for medal. gold is not impossible for her, she is not that far behind the bests of the world. I'm not sure who we will send in other 3 weights but with a good draw there is always chance for bronze in taekwondo. but I believe only Alizadeh and Kiani have realistic chance for the gold ,even though to be honest their chance is not that big.

it's a bit hard following Poomsae competitions, but Korea most probably will dominate the competition winning all 4 gold medals. our best chance is in women's individual with Marjan Salahshouri, Asian Indoor Games Champion (in absence of Korea) and Asian Championships Silver medalist. apprently they will use a knockout system for Poomsae (same as fighting events) so luck plays a big factor. you can get Korea in the first round.

being realistic I also can predict only 1 gold in Taekwondo (my initial prediction was 2) but everything is possible, even ZERO or even 4-5 gold medals. let's hope for the best.
