It's a bit hard for me to write daily reports since I'm busy following the competition almost the whole day lol

I'm not going to write much about our medals since you can read about that everywhere. I was expecting more or less the same. but I'm happy for Karimi's gold. this Uzbek guy had beaten Iranian wrestlers left and right (including Reza Yazdani in Rio Olympics). someone had to beat him and Karimi did !

I'm a bit disappointed in our shooting results. both mixed team missed the final narrowly. in Fencing one of our girls almost beat the eventual gold medalist. she lost to 15-13 to China and the Chinese girl later won the gold medal ! our Epee fencers were pathetic as usual.

in Rowing after he heat round. looks like we have a very good chance for gold medal in Women's Lightweight Quadruple sculls, Iran qualified to the final as the best team. in Wushu we had 3 easy wins in Sanda but the surprise of the day came from Taolu. in Women's Jianshu Zahra Kiani finished 2nd after the 1st round, she has to perform in the 2nd round as well ,if she wins a medal that will be our first ever medal in Women's Taolu.

we lost to Indonesia in Sepaktakraw which means the tomorrow match vs India is do or die. and in Kabaddi both of our teams were strong today. the women's team beat Korea handily they lost to the same team last year in Iran.

Tomorrow Iranians will be in action in 15 sports

Beach Volleyball: we have two teams here. one of them vs Thailand and the other one vs East Timor. it will be their first preliminary match.
Cycling Mountain Bike: we will have the downhill competition tomorrow. we have one cyclist. he has a slim chance for medal.
Equestrian: this will be our debut in Dressage Asian Games. our rider is an Iranian-British woman. she has no chance for medal.
Fencing: This is the important day for our fencing. Abedini and Pakdaman have to compete in pool round and then in knockout round. I expect at least one medal here. they have to avoid both South Korea fencers before the medal round.
Football: last group match vs Myanmar. we have to find a way to finish 2nd in the group. otherwise let's be ready for South Korea and probably an early exit.
Gymnastics: this will be the team competition which will act as the qualifier for the individual events. the only thing matters is to get SaeedReza Keikha into pommel horse final. that's our only chance for medal here.
Handball: crucial match vs Bahrain in the 2nd round. we have to beat either Bahrain or South Korea to stay alive.
Kabaddi: women's team vs Bangladesh and men's team vs Pakistan which will be very important if we want to win the group and avoid India in semifinal.
Paragliding: we will have the first 3 rounds tomorrow. I have no idea where we stand in this sport. even though I don't think we have a medal chance here.
Rowing: Again we have several athletes in the heats. two events are more important for me . men's and women's lightweight single sculls.
Sepaktakraw: we will play India tomorrow in our last group match. this is like a knockout match to win a medal or go home empty handed. I consider it 50/50
Shooting: another busy day, they will continue trap events where our chance is slim. but our best chance will be in our favorite shooting event women's 10m Air Rifle. with Elaheh Ahmadi and Armina Sadeghian. we also have slim chance in Men's 10m Air Rifle.
Taekwondo: we will have 3 athletes tomorrow. Farzan Ashourzadeh, Melika Mirhosseini and Elaheh Sheidaei. Farzan has a good draw till the semifinal , I expect him to go to the final against his archrival from South Korea. he lost to this Korean guy several times recently. Sheidaei is a bit inexperienced, she will face world bronze medalist from Uzbekistan in quarterfinal. she has her chance but not that much. Mirhosseini's draw isn't that bad she has to beat Vietnam and Jordan to win a medal. both of them in her level. I expect two medals from Farzan and one of those two girls. gold is a bit unlikely.
Tennis: we will have 5 tennis matches tomorrow. I think we will lose all of them. maybe the best chance is in men's doubles.
Wrestling: Parviz Hadi is our last freestyle wrestler. he will face his main opponent Modzmanashvili (Olympic silver medalist from Georgia now wrestling for Uzbekistan) in the 3rd round. I think Hadi can win the gold. but this match vs Uzbekistan will be 50/50.
Wushu: we have two girls in women's taolu. no chance for them. and 3 Sanda players later in the day. important day since two of them will face Indonesia. Sobhani has to beat Indonesian wushu star . I hope for 3 wins but I won't be surprised if one of our guys lose to Indonesia.

so in short. we have very good chance for medal in wrestling, Taekwondo and fencing. after that our chance is not that bad in Shooting. there is also slim chance for medal in Cycling.

mojtaba is up against a former world nr 1 and silver medlaist of world in 2017

mojtaba is favorite to lose in the last 8 but pakdaman has a good draw can reach last 4

Abedini has only himself to blame. he had to face the Korean early only because of his poor performance in pool round . good to see at least Pakdaman made it to the medal round. even though it will be hard for him to beat those Koreans. he will probably settle for the bronze.

but because of their performance, Iran will be seed 2 in team event and will have a relatively easy opponent in the quarterfinal. I think a medal in team Sabre is already secured.

I can see us going into the next round. Myanmar and North Korea can't win against Iran and Saudi Arabia and a draw won't hurt us. Malaysia and South Korea shouldn't lose their matches.

Today's shooting final was such gutting and disappointing. Again Iranians specially young ones get emotional in final stages. She would have been our youngest ever medalist if I am not wrong.

Today was a bit disappointing with Sadeghian losing the silver/bronze medal in her last shoot. or two girls losing both in quarterfinal in taekwondo, Ashourzadeh losing like that and of course Pakdaman close defeat in semifinal. he had 13-10 and later 14-13 lead but lost it. also in sepaktakraw we lost a golden chance for our first ever medal today morning against India. we lost 2-1. Handball was disastrous once again and in tennis all of our players/teams lost without winning a single set.

but Hadi saved the day, we knew his main match is in semifinal which he won by a very good comeback. I think our freestyle team did good by winning 3 gold medals. of course I'm considering our current not-so-good situation. otherwise we should expect more from freestyle wrestling.

in Rowing, Mohsen Shadi had the 6th best time in the heats ! but maybe he just didn't push much. in women's lightweight singles Nazanin Malaei went to the final as the 2nd best time, she was leading most of the way but her Chinese opponent took her in last 500m. still hard to judge based on the heat results. we don't know if they pushed maximum or not. but it seems for Malaei it's just the matter of gold or silver. our men's quardruple sculls team also won its heat and advanced directly to the final as the 3rd best time. it seems we have chance for 4-5 medals in Rowing overall.

and this is for the 3rd day. we have so many medal chances but none of them are a sure thing. we may even finish the day without a single bronze. here is a summary

Archery: Seeding round for both men and women recurve. not that much important but it shows what to expect. but after all our chance is VERY slim in recurve.
Basketball 3x3: our girls team will have its first match vs Thailand. important one if they want to advance.
Beach Volleyball: one of our teams will play Maldives which will be probably easy.
Canoe Slalom: we will have 4 athletes in heats round. all of them are expected to advance. even though there is no realistic medal chance.
Cycling Mountain Bike: we will have Men's and women's cross-country events . we have a good chance for medal in both events. specially with Faranak Partoazar and Faraz Shokri. I hope for at least one medal. maybe two. gold is unlikely.
Equestrian: Miss Sohi finished 12th in first round. she will continue in next round tomorrow. no chance for medal but she will be OK
Kabaddi: Women's team vs Chinese Taipei and men's team vs Malaysia. both matches are considered easy.
Paragliding: 3 more rounds for tomorrow. hard to believe but we were Rank 1 after the 1st round but our guy blew it in 2nd round. I don't think we have a medal chance.
Rowing: we will have 3 boats in repechage round. all of them are expected to go to the final but it won't be easy for all of them.
Shooting: there will be men's 50m rifle 3 positions, 10m Air pistol and mixed trap. none of them are our favorite events but medal is not impossible. still highly unlikely.
Swimming: we will have two simmers in 50m freestyle. no chance
Taekwondo: we should lower expectations after disappointing first day in Taekwondo. Rajabi has Korea right in first round but this Korean guy is nothing special, Rajabi himself is not that good. even if he wins he has China in next round in QF. Parisa Javadi has Kazakhstan and then a very tough Chinese opponent to win a medal here. she won the Asian Indoor Games gold last year. and our best chance is probably in women's heavyweight with Zahra Pouresmaeil she has Uzbekistan and then 2014 Asian Games gold medalist from Combodia. I have to admit I will be happy with two medals tomorrow but one medal is probably more realistic. unfortunately even no-medal is also very possible.
Wrestling: Greco-Roman competition will start tomorrow with 60kg and 67kg. Mardani has a very tough draw. staring with world bronze medalist from Korea and then Olympic silver medalist from Japan. he lost to this Korean guy at the Worlds last year but beat him few weeks ago in a tournament. this Japanese guy beat Hamid Sourian twice (one of them at the Olympics) despite this tough draw he is not completely without a chance but I won't count on it. Reza Geraei has an easy first round but then Olympic bronze medalist from Uzbekistan. he is young and sometimes wrestles very well but I think out of these two wrestlers we should be happy if we win even one medal. and I don't expect a gold tomorrow in wrestling.
Wushu: Very important day for Wushu as all of our Sanda athletes will play in quarterfinal, a win here will secure their medal at least. both Mansourian sisters vs Vietnam, Ahangarian vs Korea, Zafari vs Vietnam and Mohammadseifi vs Laos. I think it will be easy only for Mohammadseifi , the other 4 are expected to win but that won't be easy. beside that we will have Zahra Kiani competing in her second and final form, after the first form she was second only 0.05 behind the leader but also only 0.03pts separates top 5 ! so everything is possible. a medal here will be a great result for her.

On the second day of the Asian Games of Jakarta, Iranian athletes won three medals Monday. Iran’s football team advanced to the next round and both men and women kabaddi teams celebrated their second victories.

Iran, which dominated the first day of freestyle wrestling games with two gold medals of Hassan Yazdani in 86kg and Alireza Karimi in 97kg, as well as bronze for Reza Atri in the 57kg category, showed power on the second day when 125kg wrestler, Parviz Hadi beat India’s Sumit Sumit 10-0 in the first match.

With the same result, Hadi defeated the Kazakh Boltin Oleg in the quarterfinals to gain a semifinal ticket. Hadi then hammered Uzbek Davit Modzmanashvili 11-8 and got a chance to battle for gold against Zhiwei Deng of China which he did not miss and hammered the Chinese 7-0 to win the third gold for Iran freestyle wrestling team.

We are currently witnessing a revolution in Iranian football. Team Melli has never been stronger than it is today, and we will only get better.

Today we were extremely unlucky in cycling, Faranak Partoazar wasted 6-7 minutes at the start because of a mechanical error in her bicycle , she gave everything for a comeback but finished 4th and ended up crying. we also finished 4th and 5th in men's mountain bike !

but Saeid Rajabi made my day by winning a surprising gold medal. he had a tough draw, won 4 close matches (two of them in golden round) I hope for one more gold in taekwondo in remaining 3 weights.

we will have two wrestlers in bronze medal match later today. Reza Geraei did well pinning the Olympics bronze medalist but he ran into another World medalist from Kazakhstan. he will win the bronze for sure against Chinese Taipei. Mardani also beat Korea in first round but lost handily to Ota of Japan . this Japanese guy is just fantastic, he beat Sourian twice in 2016 and won a silver in Rio. Mardani will wrestle Uzbekistan for Bronze and I like his chance.

Zahra Kiani also made history winning our first ever medal in Women's taolu. she won silver only behind China.

another disappoiting day in shooting, Sedaghat made it into 5m 3 rifle final but finished 6th. so far we had 4 finalists but no medal yet. and now this is very possible for Iran to finish the shooting competition empty-handed.

This is Mohammadseifi beating his opponent from Laos by knockout in only 30 seconds !

all of our 5 athletes in Sanda made it to the semifinal ! looking forward to see all 5 of them in final vs China !

our athletes in action for tomorrow

Archery: we will have ranking round in compound, they won't get eliminated tomorrow but that's important to score as high as possible to face easier opponents in knockout round. both in men's and women's team. as well as mixed team.
Gymnastics: Iran made it to the team final as 8th team. we will finish 7th or 8th in the final.
Basketball 3x3: Our boys team start with two games tomorrow. Malaysia and Kazakhstan. I expect two wins.
Beach Volleyball: both of our teams are almost sure about the qualification, still they need to win these matches to win the group and face easier opponents in next round. we will have Qatar and Japan.
Canoe Slalom: we will have C1 Men and K1 Women semifinal and final tomorrow. no chance in C1 Men but there is a very slim chance for Razeghian in K1 Women. she was 7th in the heat round which is actually 5th because only one canoeist from each country can advance to the final.
Cycling Road: the start list is not available yet but I believe we will have one cyclist in Women's Road Race. no chance for medal.
Fencing: we will have team competition in men's epee and women's sabre. unfortunately because of their no-good results in individual events they will face tough opponents in knockout round. I'm more sorry for the girl's team. they will play Korea in semifinal. they could beat any other team beside Korea and China. No chance for medal they need more than a miracle.
Handball: easy match vs Hong Kong. we have to wish for Bahrain to beat Korea, then our last match vs Korea will be a direct knockout match.
Kabaddi: our men's team will play Nepal and later Indonesia. both matches are easy but I won't be surprised if we lose to Indonesia intentionally to avoid India in semifinal. India losing by 1pt to Korea was a big big surprise.
Paragliding: 3 more rounds for tomorrow. looks like one of our pilots is already 7th in the table.
Rowing: we will have two boats in repechage round.
Shooting: Two competitions for tomorrow, Women's 25 pistol and women's 50m rifle 3 positions. that rifle event is probably our last realistic chance for a medal in shooting. Elaheh Ahmadi won the last world cup in this event but as we know nothing is guaranteed in shooting.
Swimming: we will have swimmers in two events, 100m butterfly and 800m freestyle relay. Mehdi Ansari is our best swimmer at the moment. but even Ansari has no chance. I hope at least our relay team makes it to the final.
Taekwondo: we have two strong athletes tomorrow. Mirhashem Hosseini and Mehdi Khodabakhshi. Hosseini has a good draw until the semifinal vs Korea or Thailand. while Khodabakhshi has to face South Korea in his first match. if he wins he can go all the way to the final. the Korea guy is a bit unknown to me. this is the weakest weight for Korea. I hope for two medals. and maybe one gold medal.
Volleyball: we will start our road to the gold medal against Pakistan.
Weightlifting: Majid Askari in Group B of 69kg. no chance for medal.
Wrestling: tomorrow will be a very improtant day in wrestling. all of our 4 wrestlers can win the medal. and even gold medal is not hard to reach for all of them. Ali Geraei will start with Yang Bin of China, Geraei lost to this guy in Asian Championship final but that was an accident and Geraei made some cheap mistakes. if he wins this one I believe he can go to the final against Kim of South Korea (two times Olympic medalist) Geraei lost narrowly to this guy recently. so his first match is the key. at 87kg Nouri has the easiest draw possible, he is already in the final, he will be favorite in the final as well, I expect gold medal. Heidari at 97kg is already in semifinal. he needs one win to go to the final. Heidari himself is not that good but the level is not really high in this weight in Asia. Mehdizadeh at 130kg has a tough draw, he needs to win 3 good wrestlers to be in the final. but he beat these guys recently. his main opponent is Tinaliyev of Kazakhstan waiting for him in the final. so I believe we can win 4 medals in all 4 weights I hope for at least two golds.
Wushu: all of our 5 Sanda athletes will fight in the semifinal. Mansourian sisters against Philippines and Thailand. Ahangarian and Zafari both against India and Mohammadseifi vs South Korea. I think all 5 of them will win easily and interestingly all of them will face China in the final but that will be in the next day.
