Iranians in action for Thursday
Archery: Bronze medal match for Women's Compound team versus Chinese Taipei. we are slightly underdog here. I hope they win the bronze.
Athletics: we have Elham Kakoli in 200m heats , at least she can go to semifinal, we also have Hassan Taftian competing in 200m. medal is highly unlikely but I think he can pass the 1st round at least. if they advance, both of them have to compete in semifinal later in the day. but the most important event of the day for us will be 800m final with Amir Moradi. he looked good in heats. even though based on records his chance looks very slim but 800m is not like 100m. it's more a tactical race, and he is not that far behind the rest.
Boxing: important quarterfinal for Kazemzadeh at 69kg against Thailand. this match is quite winnable and with Ahmadi-Safa out and Mousavi facing Uzbekistan, this is our only chance for medal in Boxing.
Diving: first day of diving competition with 3m syncro springboard. no chance for medal , A top 6 finish will be a very good result.
Equestrian: first day of jumping competition showed us that there is no chance here. tomorrow is the last day for team event but we will have more rounds for individual competition.
Kurash: we have 5 competitors tomorrow. 4 men in 2 weights and 1 woman. our girl faces a tough draw and I don't think she stands a chance. but we can expect medals in men's competition. we have Ghanbari and Vahdani at 66kg. they are both Asian Champions. and Pahlevani and Zakeri in super heavy weight. from what I see none of them faces Uzbekistan before the semifinal. this is national sport of Uzbekistan. but we also had some good results here alongside Turkmenistan. even though Asian Games is another level and even South Korea and Kazakhstan can be dangerous. I believe we have chance here for medal. more than one . even gold is not impossible. 3 of these guys had won the gold in Asia before.
Sailing: few more rounds for our sailors. they are both in almost bottom of their tables.
Squash: women's team will play Hong Kong and Thailand tomorrow. they lost to India today and has no chance to advance, but I think they can beat Thailand at least.
Water Polo: last group match vs Kazakhstan. normally Kazakhstan would dominate and beat Iran badly but based on other group results it seems we can compete with them even though we will lose for sure. we secured 2nd place in the group which was the goal in group round. I think losing by less than 5 goals will be a great result.
so it won't be a busy day for us, Kurash is our only big chance tomorrow. beside Kurash we only have Archery (which is just a bronze medal match) and Moradi in 800m (which is a very slim chance). so if we are looking for gold medal tomorrow. Kurash is our only chance which is not a big one.

I have to explain why we had such a mess this time. Vietnam was the original host , not Indonesia, but they withdrew a bit late and in such a short time only Indonesia accepted to be the host but apparently they had some conditions like this. and Olympic council of Asia had no other option. it's OK if host nation wants to add 1 sport with limited number of events. but what Indonesia did was beyond imagination. they added almost everything they had.
and you guys should know in original program we didn't have +105kg in weightlifting and +84kg in Karate, we won gold in both events. they replaced these events with some lighter weights. but fortunately at least in this case the Asian Federation said "NO" !
according to OCA, we will have only few selected non-Olympic sports next time. probably only Kabaddi, Sepaktakraw, Wushu and few more.

I'm also quite upset that Indonesia has just taken the 4th place in the medal ranking from us. And that is only because they added a bunch of sports to the program that nobody heard of before!!! And Indonesia has taken all the GOLD MEDALS in their new sport so far!!! Does nobody find this ridiculous? This only shows that this sport doesn't belong at the Games when only one nation is good at it. I hope the Asian council is feeling embarrassed now!
Iran's rightful place is 4th place! And one day we will overtake Korea and China, too, just like we did in the 70's.
P.S. Chelo kabab competition sounds good. We should also add a Taroof competition while we're at it. This taroof competition should have 6 events. 3 of them will be time trial. One for 1 minute taroof (the one who wins this taroof goes to the next round), and then one for 10 minute taroof and 60 minutes of taroof. The other 3 events will be taroof at the market, taroof with your amoo and taroof with your grandma (this one is the most difficult) and I think it should have 2 gold medals for this event

two of our athletes in Kurash made it to the semifinal which means we will win two medals today. both of them will be up against Uzbekistan and even if they win there will be another Uzbek athlete waiting for them in the final !
our girl also had a good run but lost narrowly in quarterfinal to Uzbekistan. so far 6 out 6 Uzbek athletes are in semifinal and they are looking to win all 3 gold medals today. our other two guys also lost to eventual semifinalists. both of them narrowly. let's see if we can win anything more than just bronze.
in water polo we lost 9-5 to Kazakhstan, to me that's a respectful result. we will play either Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, we will probably make it to the semifinal against Japan.

well. only 1 silver and 1 bronze for today. Pahlavani lost the final just by a caution. that was quite a winnable match.
Amir Moradi also finished 4th in 800m and missed the medal narrowly. he set a new PB but lost the medal because of his wrong tactic, he was in lane 2 or 3 most of the time. which means he had to run a bit more than the rest. at the end he was only and only 0.4s behind the gold medalist. top 4 were very close to each other.

Irannn jaan vaghean damet garm for all the updates. How in the hell do you know so much about each sport and with great detail? Vaghean damet garm... IRIB Varzesh should definitely hire you to do their daily show for the Asian games. By the way is basketball the only remaining sport for us to medal? I can't think of any other sports in the Asian games for us to have realistic medal chance.

Iranians for tomorrow.
Athletics: in discus throw Ehsan Haddadi most probably will win the gold tomorrow. we also have another athlete here Behnam Shiri who also has a good chance for silver or bronze. there is nobody even close to Haddadi's level here. Amir Moradi also participates in 1500m qualification, he is supposed to pass the first round. we also have Sepideh Tavakkoli in women's high jump. there are two very good Uzbek high jumpers but behind them there is a very very slim chance for Tavakkoli for bronze.
Boxing: our last remaining boxer Mousavi in quarterfinal vs Uzbekistan. there is no chance here. we will leave the boxing competition most probably without a medal for the first time in history. thanks to Indonesia for dropping 3 heaviest weights from the program making it "Boxing for midgets"
Canoe Sprint: we have heats and semifinal in only two events, both of our teams will go to final easily. in other 4 events all of our canoeists are directly into the final because of less than 9 countries registering.
Cycling Track: we have two cyclists in Men's Sprint event, no chance.
Diving: 10m synchro platform but apparently one of our divers got injured in training. Iran also didn't participate in today's 3m synchro. I won't surprise if they don't show up tomorrow as well.
Judo: we have one Judoka in start of Judo competition. Alireza Khojasteh has a bye in first round and then North Korea. I think his draw is OK , he has something like 25% chance for medal.
Kurash: we have 4 athletes tomorrow. two in women's 63 and two in men's 81kg. draw looks not impossible for our girls but still they have to win 3 matches for a medal. looks very hard. in men's 81kg both of our guys have a tough Turkmenistan draw in first round. but for both of them draw looks better if they win the first match. I hope at least one of them or maybe two making it to the semifinal.
Sailing: few more rounds for our sailors.
Sepaktakraw: Our Quad team will play Pakistan in group round. this one is supposed to be very easy.
Squash: women's team plays Indonesia, easy win expected. but Iran is already out with two defeats.
in short, Discus throw is the highlight of the day for us. beside that our only medal chances are in Kurash and maybe in Judo. beside Haddadi I hope for at least two more medals.
