I can't think of any other sports in the Asian games for us to have realistic medal chance.
You are welcome. I just follow all these sports throughout the year. even though I'm not expert in all of them but at least I know a bit about all of them even Pencak Silat lol

just medal or gold medal ? as I said before I'm confident about two more gold medals. Haddadi and volleyball team but I hope we win one more to hit the 20 gold medal mark. even though 21 and equaling our 2014 result will be much better.

we also have a very good chance for several medals in Canoeing Sprint which will start tomorrow. (medal rounds in Thursday and Saturday) unfortunately we had gold medal chances in Men's C1-200 and Men's K1-1000 but Indonesia dropped both of them. in men's C1-200 case that's not just Indonesia fault. IOC dropped that event from the Olympic program as well but K1-1000 is still an Olympic event but they replaced with C2-200 just because of themselves. still we will participate in 10 events and I think we have medal chances in 7-8 of them. but gold medal is a bit unlikely, but our favorite events will be Men's K2-1000, Women's K1-200, Women's K1-500 and Women's K2-500. I hope at least one of them wins the gold.

we still have more medal chances in Kurash, and maybe in Judo. I just received Judo brackets and Mahjoub has a pretty good draw and Mollaei's draw also not that bad. in water polo and Sepaktakraw we have outside chance for a bronze. and I also secretly hope for another miracle from Keyhani in 5000m.

and in term of number of medals (which is also important) the biggest number we had was 59 (we won 81 in 1974 Tehran but let's not count that as we can see here the being the host is a big big advantage) I hope we win more than 60 this time. we already have 49.

That year in Tehran we finished 2nd in total medals. What do you think of our chances in men's basketball?

Yes I had a long research about 1974 Asian Games. we did a bit of cheating ourselves. we counted Snatch and Clean&Jerk medals also which helped us winning more medals. but don't forget that was the first ever time for China and North Korea participating in Asian Games. China started to dominate Asian sports after that.

well to be honest our team didn't impress me so far. not at all but I think they played better in their 2nd game. Arsalan Kazemi got injured as well, still not a sure thing if he will be available or not. Korea beat Philippines (with Jordan Clarkson) impressively but only a month ago our B team beat this Korean team in William Jones Cup. we usually know how to play South Korea. I think our chance is something like 65-35 to win the semifinal. but final against China will be difficult. they bring their NBA players specially Zhou Qi. this guy is really good and we know Hamed Haddadi is not in a great shape because of his injuries. I believe it's something like 55-45 for China but let's beat Korea first.

on paper we are the top favorite for the gold mostly because our players are more experienced but at least from what I saw in first two games. out team didn't look in a great shape but on other hand we usually start slow in tournaments. the problem is here we only get to play 4 games. we have to bring our best in the 3rd game in Thursday.

I remember Arsalan playing his college years here in the States for Rice University and Oregon. He was really good in playing defense and grabbing rebounds. He had a slight chance of making an NBA team. I believe he was selected by the 76ers but did not make their final 12 team roster. They asked him to play in the G league, a developmental league, but decided against it. Hamed, if he was in better shape from stamina standpoint, he would still be playing in NBA.

Hamed had a good respectable nba carrier. for an iranian that was honestly impressive. sure he had even more potential but personally im impressed he made it

both Tiztak and Aliakbari made it to semifinal in men's Kurash 81kg, Tiztak lost there but Aliakbari beat Uzbekistan and reaches the final vs Tajikistan. he was feeling pain in his semifinal. I hope he recovers very soon because his final will be in few minutes.

Gold number 18 in Kurash by Elias Aliakbari.

our Kurash did well so far. even our girls lost narrowly to eventual medalists. but both of our athletes tomorrow face Uzbekistan before the medal round. so it will gold or nothing !

It seems that Uzbeks are dominating this sport... every weight they have at least one finalist.

no surprise at all. they invented this sport ! kind of a national sport for them. but I'm glad we took one gold away from them. it could be more than one but still ! beside that Uzbekistan is one of our main rivals for 5th place.

as you can see this sport is highly dominated by Central Asian countries. even though this is very similar to Judo but we can see that Judo powerhouses like Japan and Korea are no good here.

I watched Ghanbari's match against the Uzbeki guy... I tried to follow and understand it... I was hard for me to understand and realized at the end the Uzbeki guy won 10-0 by pinning Ghanbari, is that right?

The football/soccer final will be South Korea versus Japan.

Vietnam and the UAE will face off for the bronze medal.

I can't remember that match but I think he lost by Halal. the score shows on the TV graphics is different what you can see on the scoreboard (which is the real score) the scoring system is the same as Judo.

there is 3 type of scores. Halal, Yambosh and Chala

Chala is the lowest score, then Yambosh and Halal means victory . two Yambosh = Halal.
and even if you score 1000 Chala it still loses to one Yambosh.

and first caution means Chala for the opponent. second caution means Yambosh and 3rd caution means losing the match.

                              Iranians for tomorrow

Athletics: we have two finals tomorrow. Amir Moradi in 1500m, Hossein Keyhani in 5000, both of are not specialists in these events but they both did well and gave me hope for something. I hope for one medal tomorrow , and let's see if Keyhani can surprise us again. but remember he is specialist in 3000m steeplechase and he has no experience in 5000m but he looked in a great shape.
Basketball: important semifinal vs South Korea. we are slightly favorite here, the same Korean team (with their American naturalized player) lost to our B team few weeks ago but it doesn't guarantee anything. Korea is very dangerous if they become hot from behind the arc.
Canoe Sprint: we have 6 finals tomorrow and I believe except Women's C2-500, we have a good chance for medal in all other finals. but we are not favorite for the gold in any of them ! in Men's K4-500 we weren't good in qualifiers but I assume they didn't push much. no chance for gold but we have slight chance for bronze. in Women's K1-500 Hedieh Kazemi is a current Asian silver medalist and she has a very good chance to repeat that medal. it will be hard for her to challenge the Chinese girl for the gold. in Men's C1-1000 Nabi Rezaei has a chance to challenge Tajikistan and Korea for bronze. I believe Uzbekistan and China will finish 1st and 2nd. Men's K1-1000 is our best chance for gold mostly because there is no clear favorite here still we have to beat Kazakhstan for the gold. but our team was really bad during the qualifiers , still maybe they just didn't push much. the last final is Men's C2-1000. we have a good chance for bronze. in general I hope for 3 medals tomorrow. gold is a bit unlikely.
Cycling Track: we have Mohammad Ganjkhanloo in Men's Omnium. this event is something like Decathlon in Athletics. he has to compete in 4 different events. he has a slim chance for medal. this event is quite unpredictable.
Diving: qualification and final in Men's 1m Springboard. no chance for medal for Mojtaba Valipour.
Equestrian: final round in show jumping, only one of our riders made it this far , no realistic chance. even a top 10 finish will be great !
Judo: we have two girls in the competition. both of them face China in first round which means early elimination. but we also two male competitiors. Mohammad Mohammadi Barimanloo and top seed Saeid Mollaei. Mohammadi has an easy round until the quarterfinal. I believe he has an outside chance for bronze. but our best chance in Judo is Mollaei. despite being the top seed he is not the #1 favorite for the gold because Japan and Korea are always there ! his draw looks easy until the semifinal vs Korea. I expect medal from him. hopefully gold even though that's really hard.
Kurash: we have 3 more athletes in last day of Kurash competition. Zahra Bagheri has a bye in first round but for a medal she has a very tough draw. I don't think she stands a chance. in men's 90kg. Ghasem Ahadi will face Uzbekistan right in the first round which is his early final. our other guy Malekmohammadi also faces another Uzbek athlete in quarterfinal. this is very possible for "no medal" in last day but I hope at least one of them makes a surprise.
Sepaktakraw: our Quad team will play Vietnam and Nepal tomorrow. they beat Pakistan easily today and will beat Nepal easily too but the key match is Vietnam. even if they lose they still can beat Singapore the next day for a medal. both Vietnam and Singapore are slightly favorite against Iran and Vietnam is a better team than Singapore.
Squash: last group match against China. they will lose for sure and will finish 5th in group of 6 teams !
Table Tennis: start of individual competitions. Alamian brothers will have easy matches in the second round. both got bye in the first round.
Volleyball: semifinal match vs Qatar. I think Iran will win this relatively easy but they should take Qatar seriously. not a bad team.
Water Polo: Important quarterfinal match against Saudi Arabia. we are huge favorite here to win and reach the top 4.

We have no sure medal for tomorrow but we can expect medal in Canoeing and Judo. there are also some chances in Kurash and Athletics and maybe, just maybe in Cycling. plus important semifinals in basketball and volleyball.
