    Canoeing finals

Women's C2-500: as I expected no chance for medal here they finished 7th.
Men's K4-500: Iran beat Japan for the bronze medal behind Kazakhstan and South Korea !
Women's K1-500: silver medal for Hedieh Kazemi behind China, I was expecting exactly the same medal for her.
Men's C1-1000: surprise bronze for World Junior medalist Mohammad Nabi Rezaei ! apparently an accident happened for the Chinese canoeing who was leading the race ! Rezaei is just 19 with a great future.
Men's K2-1000: they finished 6th. very very disappointing as I even had small hope for gold medal ! they were very close to top 3 most of the race with less than 1 second behind the leader, I don't know what happened for them at the end. what a pity.
Men's C2-1000: 4th place. again disappointing, Uzbekistan beat them in last 250m for bronze.

so 1 silver and 2 bronze in first day of finals. I was excepting 3 medals but one of them from a different event !

    ------------

meanwhile Mohammad Ganjkhanloo is leading the Omnium competition after the first event (Scratch race). he has a good lead over his main opponents. let's see if he can continue like that or not. now he has a good chance for medal

thanks. as I said I follow all these sports throughout the year. I know at least the basics about all of them. but of course I know much more about some of these sports, like volleyball, basketball, wrestling, taekwondo, judo, fencing etc.

Saeid Mollaei made my day he made it to the final beating his Korean opponents by Ippon. he completely dominated the Korean guy and luckily his final opponent is not Japan but Kazakhstan. of course Kazakh guy is good enough to beat Japan but still it's always better to face anybody else than Japan.

we could have another one in the final. Mohammadi-Barimanlou was 0-0 tied with top seed from Korea and while the Korean was looking tired for the extra time he made a move and win the match with only and only 1 second to go ! that was quite heartbreaking. he has to face North Korea for bronze. I think he has a good chance

in Cycling, Ganjkhanloo made a fatal mistake in Tempo Race and blew up his big lead from Scratch, he is still in course for a medal. currently 3rd in the ranking. only two more events to go this afternoon. Elimination race and Points race. he is supposed to be good in both of them.

I'm quite sure I will never forget this one, never. how the hell Mollaei lost that !! he had only himself to blame for such a mistake and of course refs screwed up Iran once more but he could easily avoid that.

Where was the head referee from? The one behind the desk.

no idea. and I'm in no mood to re-watch the last seconds of this one. (even though most probably I can't recognize the ref) even if we win 10 more golds medals this one still hurts for me.

Interesting little article regarding Iran's basketball games from http://www.iran-varzeshi.com/News/82...6%DB%8C%D8%AF-

Today was a "good" day if it wasn't for Mollaei's accident. I support all of our athletes but I care more for some of them and Mollaei is one of the athletes I like personally and I still can't forget how he lost the final to someone much weaker than himself. looks like our Judo is cursed. even when we are good, something happens. but Mollaei was great today, he has a realistic shot for a medal in Tokyo.

Barimanloo was also very good. it's hard to believe but actually we had a good chance for two gold medals today in Judo. both Barimanloo and Mollaei lost with only 1 second to go ! Ganjkhanloo in Cycling threw away a big chance for medal, even the gold medal. he is very young and maybe we will hear more from him in future. this our 3rd "4th-place finish" in Cycling and still no medal with only 2 events remaining. we had a surprise silver medal by Amir Moradi in 1500m (he is specialist in 800m) and Hossein Keyhani gave his everything in 5000m , and finished 4th behind two African runners (for Bahrain) and a guy from Saudi Arabia. but our basketball team was great today gave me hope for Saturday tomorrow against China. in volleyball even Qatar was too easy for Iran.

Right now we already got more Silvers and Bronzes and overall medals than 2014 - just lacking 2 golds

in Judo 3 shido (caution/penalty) means disqualification. in this match the center ref gave two Shido to both of them at the start and both were sitting on 2 Shido for the rest of the match. Mollaei scores a waza-ari and he was easily winning the match. in last second he somehow sat on the Tatami while the center referee did nothing about it. the video review panel took a decision giving Mollaei his 3rd shido.

technically that Shido was not wrong. but they are usually less strict when it comes to the 3rd Shido . specially in a gold medal match and in the last second.

All 8 of Iran's Karate athletes (4 men, 4 women) got medals in the asian games! 2 golds, 3 silvers, and 3 bronze. Karate debuts at the Olympics in 2020 so it could be a good sport for Iran in the Olympics!

                            Is this unfair?

                            https://en.mehrnews.com/news/137218/...fair-medals-in

TEHRAN, Aug. 28 (MNA) – The head of Iran's National Olympic Committee (NOC), Reza Salehi Amiri said that Indonesia’s medals in the unknown and indigenous sport of pencak silat is a gift from Olympics Council of Asia (OCA) and Iran will officially protest against these medals in OCA.
The act of OCA to recognize pencak silat and its medals in the final medal count of Asian Games is unjustifiable, irrational and totally unfair, he added.

Iran has already verbally protested to the OCA President Sheikh Ahmed al-Fahad al-Ahmed al-Sabah, Salehi said, adding that the president answered that ‘this kind of privilege would also be granted to Iran if games are held in the country’. This answer is not convincing, Salehi highlighted.

These medals led to a significant increase in Indonesia’s ranking from 17 in 2014 Incheon to 4 in 2018 Jakarta and OCA should be deemed responsible for this, he added.

For each discipline, hundreds of athletes compete to reach Asian Games, and dozens try to win medals during the Asiad, and the fact that the host country can easily win numerous medals is very regrettable, the Iranian official noted.

The 18th edition of Asian Games is underway in Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang. Iran’s 4th place in medals table was taken by Indonesia after winning 10 gold medals in the indigenous sport of penak silat.
We are currently witnessing a revolution in Iranian football. Team Melli has never been stronger than it is today, and we will only get better.

Ah come on, in the end no one cares and everybody also knows that they got 15 gold medals. At least some people are active in that sport, who the hell outside of Central Asia knows what Kurash or Kabbadi is.
