now there is a high possibility for not even winning a single medal in Greco !!! Abdevali lost the bronze medal match. he was leading 1-1 and refs had to give caution to Armenia but of course they didn't. Abdevali tried for a pushout and instead gave up a 2pts throw. and lost it. he could win the gold now he is going home with nothing.

Nouri will wrestle for bronze tomorrow. has to beat Armenia first and then Azerbaijan. the last time Iran didn't win a single medal in Greco was in 2003 !! and remember now we have 10 weight classes instead of 8. which means more chance for medal !!

9 out of 10 are already eliminated. and the last one Aliyari just lost to Russia and Russia most probably won't make it to the final because there is Olympic Champion from Armenia here and even if he makes it Aliyari can't beat that guy for the bronze

this is official after 15 years we are going home without a single bronze medal in Greco-Roman ! complete disaster. yeah some of them got robbed. most of them were unlucky with the draw (well to be honest that wasn't just bad luck. the draw was fixed for most weights, I'm almost sure about that) but this is NOT new. we always had these kinds of problems but always managed to win few medals at least. this year was a total disaster.

these past few days was really hard for me. watching them losing one by one. most of them losing close matches, mostly in heart breaking situations. I feel terrible right now but this is sport. with lots of ups and downs. I wasn't expecting a great result here as I knew our situation but this ? unbelievable. just unbelievable.

I feel you! But here is my personal advice following Iranian sports for most of my life!
Passion is good but not to the extent that it would affect us emotionally, no matter how we get robbed or bad performance, bad luck etc, I am looking at these championships not as “sports” but “games”!
Sports to me now means, or I make myself to believe, “training”! Competition means “games”!
So the result of a game I dont take serious any more, I am totally indifferent!
This way if we win, I will be happy, if we lose I just move on.
Sports is something I do myself to keep me fit, thats what I care more!
I dont know but that is what works for me!
Thought I share it with you!

Put your head up, move on, enjoy the next upcoming “games”, meanwhile do the real sport yourself and keep youself fit!

oh thanks but I'm following this for so many years, I know when you lose there is always a next time. there are bad days and good days.

btw we will have a wrestler for bronze today, Mehdi Aliyari just beat Kyrgyzstan and Venezuela to face the legendary Artur Aleksanyan for bronze. this guy is a 4 times World and Olympic champion. sounds like mission impossible for Aliyari.

Irann just thank you for all your wrestling updates and also let's not forget your daily asian games updates. One thing I want to mention and that is the excuse for the draw being hard for us. I always think that if you are good enough you should do well no matter what. Our mentality has always been weak from this point of view, not just in wrestling but in all sports.

a bit surprising, Mehdi Aliyari won the bronze medal. the Armenian guy withdew from the bronze medal match. Aliyari somehow deserved that medal he wrestled better than expectations to be honest. he had a surgery this year . he got lucky at the end though.

Do you know why Aleksanyan withdrew from the match?
He is such an amazing wrestler.

I watched his semifinal against Evloev last night, he didn't look injured to me. maybe he has an old injury or something but I think he probably wasn't motivated to cut weight again for a bronze medal. he is a 4 times World Champion ! he is cutting huge for 97kg, and in current rules we have weight-in again in the 2nd day. maybe his body couldn't handle cutting weight again for just a bronze ! I had the same concern about Hassan Yazdani but at least he came to the mat and won the damn bronze. it's sometimes hard mentally for big champions to compete for the bronze medal.

and no I'm not from mazandaran.

I disagree here. draw and luck is a big part of sports specially wrestling, of course we should have strong mentalities, don't be afraid of anybody. but let me put it this way, imagine we had a round robin competition among all wrestlers in each weight, do you think how many wrestlers could finish the competition without a single defeat and beating everybody ? I think only one, Sadullaev. and maybe the Taylor guy who beat Yazdani. only few wrestlers are this good to dominate and beat everybody.

like everybody else I believe Hassan Yazdani is a very great wrestler but I don't think he could win the Olympic gold medal if he was on the other side of the draw, he could not beat both Geduev and Burroughs. the thing is in every competition we have some wrestlers with good draw and some with bad draw. but this year it was either a bad draw or a brutal draw. tonight's 130kg final was a joke. that was too easy for the Russian guy. why ? because all favorites were in one side. even our wrestler could win the silver or bronze if he was on other side. and he is not any good.

sometimes there are matchup problems. Alireza Karimi was fantastic in this competition, but obviously he has matchup problem with this guy Cox. this is the 3rd time he lost to Cox. and he dominated 3 great wrestlers from Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan . I believe if Cox was in Karimi's place in the table. he could NOT beat Russia or Azerbaijan and Karimi is the World Champion right now and we were talking about how great he is. or our Greco 60kg wrestler Mardani, he just can't beat this Japanese guy. but I can promise he is much better than 3 of those 4 medalists. before the draw I was just hoping for him to stay away from this Japanese guy Ota (who also beat Sourian at the Olympics) but he got Ota right in the first round !

by saying that I'm defending our performance here. that was poor, very disappointing and disgraceful but I'm just saying we were also very unlucky here. specially in Greco we have a basic problem. our wrestlers can't dominate physicially strong wrestlers. Nouri and Abdevali are good enough to even win the world title but they are not technical enough to execute big throws. their style is pushing and pushing and make the opponent tired. but some wrestlers just don't get tired easily and if you give up a big throw by accident this is almost impossible to come back. if we have the competition again tomorrow. this is very possible for Hossein Nouri to win the gold. I believe that. but this is also possible for him to lose to anybody in top 10. because of his style he is always in danger of being thrown. when you are pushing you lose your balance as well. I think only Geraei brothers are very good technically. if they only improve themselves defensively they both can win so many medals with current rules.

Yeah, that was my concern as well, regarding to Yazdani, it is hard to motivate them for Bronze medal match.

The only positive in all that is this happened two years before Olympics and lots of changes, more young wrestlers than experienced one, so hope by the next year they do better.

So sad they even ruined our wrestling. Only sport that guaranteed medals each competition is now ruined.
