Well if you mean popular by participation than its one of the most popular sports in the World, while in the sub continent+ Malaysia and in Netherlands it gets fair amount of coverage and attention.

Germany, Netherlands, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Pakistan and Malaysia. But in all these countries either Soccer, Rugby or Cricket more popular than Hockey

Great game of hockey, Germany after being dominated by tbe Dutch broke of in the final quarter.

Malaysia 1-1 Pakistan

Not as great as the Ger-Ned in quality but was more entertaining match. Third quarter was a bit dull but overall end to end play. Great drag flick by Faizal Sarri and nich finish by Atiq as well. Overall a disappointing performance from us.

Though very unlikely but if Belgium finish ahead of India than we might have a India-Pakistan clash in the crossovers which will be great for the competition overall.

The Pool stages have been concluded. Four teams India, Germany, Australia, Argentina are in the quarterfinals by toping their groups while eight teams will compete in the Crossovers to join the above four teams in the next stage.

Hockey is the 6th sport in Holland by number of members (behind gulf, fishing & Gymanstic). As for coverage on TV, I think it might be even lower.
Basically it's a sport for the upper class in Holland that suck at Football or tennis. Professional hockey players get around 35k a year here, roughly the same amount as good amateur football players.
