    Koshti Iran News & Updates

Maybe we can have a thread for Koshti.

February 2019 , in the last 2-3 days Iran competed with only 4 wrestlers at a "friendly" tournament named Dan Kolov in Bulgaria ( most world known wrestlers competed) , sadly Iran came with 4 Azad Wrestlers only, i dont know why yet.

    - Hassan Yazdani got Gold
    - Reza Yazdani is back ( !!!!!!) after two years of injury he did great, he got bronze and was unlucky in semi finals, very unlucky he should have won against an unfair Ukrainian.
-Parviz Hadi got Gold at 125 kg, what a great heavy weight we have
-in 74 kg Hosseinkhani became fifth, he is a great young wrestler but needs more experience, he lost Bronze in the very last second

So we had 4 wrestlers and 3 Medals, sadly other nations came with so many wrestlers that they even competed against each other in this Tournament

Yes, it was a good showing in a respectable tournament which was also important to increase athlete's rankings.

@P-Money: Hosseinkhani is almost 30 and has disappointed time after time losing easy matches in competitions. He was crossed off the invitee list today after his performance.

@Ab-Gosht: Snyder was in Reza Yazdani's weight and I don't think they have wrestled each other before. Hassan Yazdani lost to David Taylor in 2018 and he wasn't in the competition.

I was following this competition in past 3 days. and I watched all of our matches. why we didn't send a bigger team ? because our coaches had different training schedules for other wrestlers. I THINK we won't see these 4 guys in the Asian Championships or the World Cup and that's why they wrestled here. since you guys were positive I'm trying to be negative here.

Hosseinkhani was/is/will be a total disaster. I hate watching this guy. he can't stop losing in last seconds. he did that again here. not once but twice ! and in bronze medal match he lost with only 3 seconds to go. I lost hope on this guy long time ago. and this is the weight we will have problem to even qualify for the Olympics. Hosseinkhani is our best unfortunately. he can be good. he can wrestle good for 5:30 minutes but still lose everything in last 20-30 seconds.

Hassan Yazdani teched everybody here . winning all of his matches by 10pts margin. this is great but in the final vs Shabanov he gassed once again in 2nd period. he won easily because Shabanov was dead tired too. actually watching this tournament made me worry more about his future matchup vs Taylor. he either has to tech Taylor in 1st period or he will lose in 2nd period. I can't see another scenario unless Yazdani tries another strategy. (PS: Shabanov beat Yazdani few months before the 2016 Olympics in a tournament in Paris at 74kg, he was never an easy matchup for Hassan)

Hadi was good (not great) he beat 3-4 good wrestlers to win the gold including last year silver and bronze medalists. even though in 3 of his matches he gave up easy points at first and then he had to climb the Everest to win the match (which he did) but you can't do that all the time. you can't count on your opponent getting tired in 2nd period. but right now it's fair to say he is #3 in the world only behind Akgul and Petriashvili. and even beating those guys is not impossible for him. he beat Akgul in Budapest and had a relatively close match with Petriashvili who was also here but had to withdraw in middle of the competition (for a reason I don't know he didn't look injured in his quarterfinal)

and Reza Yazdani. he was good here. better than my expectations. but he has to improve a lot to win a world medal again. the Ukrainian who beat Reza in SF was the same guy in 2012 Olympics semifinal when Reza got injured and lost the Olympic gold medal. he was nervous on that match from the start and the Ukrainian tried to make him angry by dirty tactics. he lost focus and even didn't want to continue the match at some point when he was 3pts down. he had a tough draw. none of his matches were easy. I believe he got pinned in his opening match vs Cuban-Italian guy Conyedo (2018 World bronze medalist) but he was lucky the ref didn't call that. he was unlucky in 3 Olympics he participated, I really hope this time he wins the Olympic medal he deserves but with Sadulaev in this weight gold medal is REALLY hard to achieve but I think Reza can beat the rest including Snyder.

Iran reached the final in freestyle World Cup against Russia. the final will be in less than 2 hours and you can watch it live in UWW website.

this is not our A team. some of them aren't even B or C wrestlers. this is already a good achievement. Iran beat Mongolia 9-1, USA 5-5 (on criteria) and Georgia 8-2. the American team wasn't also their A team still a tough team.

Russia despite being incomplete still has some great names in the squad and I don't think there is a chance for Iran to challenge this Russian team. the interesting thing about this World Cup is the return of Olympic silver and bronze medalist Komeil Ghasemi. who already won 3 matches and his win vs USA secured our place in the final. this is probably the only weight we are favorite against Russia.

My Dream-final for the next Olympic-games would be Reza Yazdani vs Sadulaev; i just hope that Reza wont meat the Ukrainian guy again in the Olympics.
Hadi, Reza and Hasan Yazdani are our biggest hopes for Goldmedals in Freestyle wrestling.

Iran dominated the Asian Freestyle Wrestling Championships, winning 7 gold medals. plus 3 bronze medals all 10 wrestlers ended up on the podium.

It was a very good tournament for our new coach and I can feel some positive changes but we should not fool ourselves. the level wasn't great here in some weights. and we still have serious problems in middle weights, it will be very hard for Iran to even qualify for the Olympics in 65 and 74kg.

Shouldn't get complacent. This was nothing compared to the Olympics.

Thanks. I haven't followed wrestling for a year or so. Have some questions:
who is our new Freestyle coach?
                          who is current Greco coach?
Is Khadem still head of Federation?

Also I noticed in UWW Hall of Fame website somehow they removed Abdollah Movahed. I guess this is just an error, can someone contact UWW or inform Iran federation about this? This happened in the transition of their new website, Movahed's name disappeared although he is a Hall of Famer.

                          Thanks...

Yes, we keep getting excited about winning useless tournaments like world cup or Asian champs and then fail big time in world champs and to less extent in Olympics.
