Today was the last day of International Weightlifting Competition (Fajr Cup) in Rasht, Iran that was supposed to be one of the most important events for our weightlifting qualification process. as I said before Sohrab Moradi didn't participate, but Kianoush Rostami bombed out again and his chance is lower than ever now.
Moradi is planned to participate in West Asian Championship in 20 days in UAE, it seems he is doing his training and they are hopeful he will get the eoungh numbers in UAE.
but Ali Hashemi (109kg) and Ali Davoudi (+109kg) collected enough points, for Davoudi his job is done, he did everything and his quota is 100% guaranteed. Hashemi only has to participate in one more event to make sure (even participation will be most probably enough) that means Iran will have 2 weightlifters in Tokyo for sure. the question is who and in which weight. if Sohrab Moradi also makes it, it will be up to Iran to pick 2 out of these 3 guys. I think Ali Davoudi is guaranteed a spot (unless he gets injured or something) the only question is about the other quota.
Ali Davoudi won the Fajr Cup event with 441kg record (and he could lift more) this record will be 95% enough for a silver medal in Tokyo.
there are some other events in the IWF calendar, but it seems for Iran, they only registered for West Asian Champs this month and also another event in Colombia in March plus Asian Championships in April. Moradi needs 2 more results, Rostami needs 1 (and he has to break the WR in that one to stand a very slim chance), Hashemi also needs 1 (and he just has to participate) and Ali Davoudi doesn't need anything else.
