Today was the last day of International Weightlifting Competition (Fajr Cup) in Rasht, Iran that was supposed to be one of the most important events for our weightlifting qualification process. as I said before Sohrab Moradi didn't participate, but Kianoush Rostami bombed out again and his chance is lower than ever now.

Moradi is planned to participate in West Asian Championship in 20 days in UAE, it seems he is doing his training and they are hopeful he will get the eoungh numbers in UAE.

but Ali Hashemi (109kg) and Ali Davoudi (+109kg) collected enough points, for Davoudi his job is done, he did everything and his quota is 100% guaranteed. Hashemi only has to participate in one more event to make sure (even participation will be most probably enough) that means Iran will have 2 weightlifters in Tokyo for sure. the question is who and in which weight. if Sohrab Moradi also makes it, it will be up to Iran to pick 2 out of these 3 guys. I think Ali Davoudi is guaranteed a spot (unless he gets injured or something) the only question is about the other quota.

Ali Davoudi won the Fajr Cup event with 441kg record (and he could lift more) this record will be 95% enough for a silver medal in Tokyo.

there are some other events in the IWF calendar, but it seems for Iran, they only registered for West Asian Champs this month and also another event in Colombia in March plus Asian Championships in April. Moradi needs 2 more results, Rostami needs 1 (and he has to break the WR in that one to stand a very slim chance), Hashemi also needs 1 (and he just has to participate) and Ali Davoudi doesn't need anything else.

There is no men's doubles events at the Olympics to qualify ! they had their chance for "men's team" event couple weeks ago but lost it narrowly. we even had match point in crucial match against Slovenia (team which eventually qualified)

right now there is 1 spot available for "Central Asia" normally that quota always goes to Iran, but this time there is a very good Kazakhstani player, and in the same Spanish event he reached the final while both Alamian brothers got eliminated early in singles draw. they have to beat this guy to qualify and maximum only 1 of them can qualify.

There will be one last chance in World Last Chance qualifier in Qatar (if I'm not wrong) but there will be so many good European players fighting for those spots. so in short it's still possible for both of them to qualify. but this is also possible for Iran to not have even one player in Table Tennis at the Olympics for the first time since 1996.

those bros qualify or not are still way to good for coming out of any asian country besides the obvious, similar to hadadi in discus these are generational talents that have been training a lot on their own and are way above the level they should be on

Which team sports have qualified so far? Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer?

Only basketball and volleyball. No others have or will.

Very very unlikely for us to beat Kazakhstan at their home. The possibility is equal to the possibility of Kazakhstan beating us in volleyball. So it will be a miracle if we qualify.

I can't remember if FIBA announced a date yet.

we even don't know the name of all 12 participating teams. even though that doesn't necessarily stop FIBA , I remember in past they had the draw ceremony without knowing all 12 teams.

Why? Because our players could be scouted by NBA teams?

now I know the answer, it will be held on 21 March in Switzerland "before" the Olympic Qualification tournaments.

this time for the first time in Olympic history it will be 3 groups of 4 teams and if they use the current World Ranking for the seeding (which is likely but I'm not sure about that), Iran will be in pot 2 alongside France and Argentina. if you are surprised how come we are in pot 2. that's because right now we know the name of 8 participating teams and Iran is ranked higher than Japan and Nigeria. we are 6th and therefore in pot 2.
