They refused to share the podium or even shake hand with Chinese Sun Yang after
he has defeated in a race and won Gold.
FINA should severely fine both these athletes and their national federations because
of this behavior. Let's see if they take the right and just action.
Now imagine how they would react if some Iranian athlete pulls this kind of stunt.....

WKF announced the new Olympic Ranking for the month of August. we had Asian Championship last month and therefore we have some major changes.
we have no chance to qualify in Kata, so I will stick to the Kumite events. I have to say once again, top 4 in each weight qualify for the Olympics. 4 of these weights (67 and +75 for men and 55 and +61 for women) are mixture of two weight classes and top 2 from each of those weights qualify. for example you can be 7th place but still in top 2 for your own weight.
Men's 67kg:
our best athlete Derafshipour is 19th and he is 2200pts behind the qualification zone, still possible on paper but it's getting really hard.
Men's 75kg:
Bahman Askari is #1 and he has something like 2000pts advantage over the 5th placed guy. he is safe for now but still not a done deal.
Men's +75kg:
Sajjad Ganjzadeh is currently 2nd overall and first in his own weight of +84kg, he has 2700pts advantage over the next eligible guy. we also have another athlete Zabihollah Poursheib in 5th place. looks good so far.
Women's 55kg:
couple of good results put Taravat Khaksar in a good position to stand a chance. she is currently 7th and she is only 300pts behind the last qualified athlete. quite possible for her but still it won't be easy, there are 5 or 6 other girls more or less with the same score.
Women's 61kg:
Rozita Alipour also climbed the World ranking after his result in Asia and she is also currently 7th. but she is 1300pts behind the 4th place and her job is harder. she needs 2 more big results to put herself in the qualification zone.
Women's +61kg:
after few good results Hamideh Abbasali is now in 4th place and inside the qualification, she is actually 7th but 2nd for her own weight class, but she has only 400pts advantage over the next girl so her place is far from being safe.
-----------------------------
so in short, right now we have 3 qualified athletes, 2 of them are almost safe but Abbasali still needs more points. beside her, Khaksar and Alipour are both in 7th place and still alive for the Olympic qualification. but I think we have no chance in the ranking for men's 67kg. beside this there is 1 quota available for each gender through the ranking for each continent. right now that quota belongs to Taravat Khaksar as the best Asian female athlete (outside of top 4). so if the deadline was today we would qualify 4 athletes for Tokyo in Karate.
if we fail to qualify here, there is only one last tournament left , only top 3 from that tournament qualify. it will be great if we qualify 4 or 5 Karatekas, any quota in this sport can be a gold medal chance.

personally I'm not really optimistic about this weight. Mehdizadeh never got any good result in this new weight and Derafshipour is out of shape. but still that last chance qualifier will be in May or April 2020. still lots of time to improve. they are both world medalist and very experienced.
I think I said it before, in this sport, qualification is much harder than winning a medal in Tokyo. in Tokyo there will be only 10 athletes for each weight. usually only 8 of them are real candidates for the medal. which means there is something like 50% chance of medal. and beside that they will use a Group round format. so less accidental results. there will be two group of 5 athletes for each event. the group winner goes to the final. 2nd and 3rd placers will meet the 3rd and 2nd placers from other group in two bronze medal matches . you can lose twice (and maybe even once more) but still win a medal.

our athletics federation is a mess right now. it seems all athletes are rebelling against the current federation president. I believe right now only Mehdi Pirjahan in 400m hurdles is capable of reaching the qualification mark. he is breaking the National record almost once in a month and he is just 0.23 away from the qualification. this month he improved his record by half a second. so I think 0.23 is within his reach. but he has just a month left to do that.
I also have absolutely no idea about the current shape of Asian Games silver medalist Amir Moradi. his coach (and brother) Sajjad Moradi was very upset about the federation and it seems Amir is not training 100% recently.
I'm not sure but I think we also can send a female athlete as a wild card if we want. but I'm afraid there is no competitive female athlete for Iran. they probably won't use the wild card.

The fact is he was cleared and he was allowed to compete and he won. The losers were the UK and AUS
swimmers who could not take the loss. They should be banned for their behavior on the podium.
I bet if this was an Iranian athlete doing it they would take away his medal and ban him for life and you
will be OK with that too
