Highly unlikely. Japan and Kazakhstan are the best in Asia. Japan will be Olympics as hosts and there will be one more spot for Asia.
The qualifications will take place in December in Kazakhstan and they will 99% qualify as hosts. Unless we can cause a major upset and finish above Kazakhs, China and Korea.

I am really proud of him and what he has done takes incredible amount of will and mental strength.

This guy was on the brick of missing the Olympics after he was unfairly refused a Visa for world championships in Manchester in May 2019, where the most points were awarded for Olympic rankings (120 for Gold) and Hashem fell behind his rivals greatly by not being able to attend that tournament.

This had such an effect on him that he wanted to quit Taekwondo altogether even though he is only 20 !!! But he has come back strong and has won every single tournament since the world champs and with the 40 points he collected today he is very close to securing his Olympic qualifications by finishing top 6 of the rankings.

With the form he is in he one of our top 3 chances for gold in Tokyo next year.
Actually he has to be in top 5 to make sure about the qualification , the 6th direct spot belongs to the "Grand Slam" winner but if the Grand slam winner is one of the top 5 athletes (very very possible) then that quota transfers to the 6th athletes in the WR.

by my calculation Mirhashem is 5th right now and my ranking is different than the current WT ranking. because I also considered the future points deduction of September, October, November and December.

      here is my ranking
      1. Lee (KOR) 453.10
      2. Sinden (GBR) 360.73
      3. Zhao (CHN) 318.89
      4. Abughaush (JOR) 297.90
      5. Hosseini (IRN) 274.23
      6. Achab (BEL) 265.45
      7. Perez (ESP) 265.03
      8. Brecic (CRO) 248.08
      9. Huang (TPE) 243.48
      10. Denisenko (RUS) 239.83
      11. Pontes (BRA) 229.99

Hosseini is in a good position with only two major events left this year. but still not a done deal. he needs one more good result to secure the quota.

Iran won 3 Olympic quotas in Greco-Roman in World Wrestling Championships.

        60kg - Alireza Nejati
        77kg - Mohammad Ali Geraei
        130kg - Amir Ghasemi-Monjazi

NOC wins the quota not the athlete. Iran can replace these guys

2 more tournaments left for the remaining weight classes. 1 for Asia and 1 for the rest of the World. only top 2 from each event qualify.

Iran won 2 Olympic quotas in freestyle in World Wrestling Championships.

          57kg - Reza Atri
          86kg - Hassan Yazdani

one day left but we are not going to add anything tomorrow.

This is pretty bad to be honest. We used to get almost full Olympic quotas in wrestling in the pre-olympic world championships.
Although I know it used to be based on team performance before.

nope. that was weightlifting. it was never based on the team ranking in wrestling.

this is not great but this is what i was expecting. I was expecting 2+2. we got 3+2. so I'm not that upset about it. yeah last time in Las Vegas (2015) we qualified 5 out of 6 in freestyle but well that was 4 years ago. it could be more. Mohebbi was 1pt away, Taheri and Saravi in Greco got robbed in the last match before the quota. Shaabani only had to hold on to his lead against somewhere older than himself.

to me qualifying in Asia is no problem in most of those weights. 87 and 97 Greco + 65, 97 and 125 freestyle. in some of them we are just too good for the rest of Asia (125 FS, 87/97 GR) and in some of them all top asian wrestlers are already qualified (65 FS) but our main problem is 74 FS and 67 GR. right now it looks hard for Iran to qualify those two events.

the last time we had an incomplete freestyle team at the Olympics was 1996 and only because at the time there was only 1 qualification tournament and one of our wrestlers didn't make weight (Nader Rahmati 48kg) unfortunately this is possible to happen again.

but we still have 6 months to improve and qualify a full team for the Olympics. that's still possible.

                How does qualification work?

I thought anyone who got awarded at least bronze qualified the weight division for the NOC!

                So how about the following:
                Younes Emami (70KG FS)
                Alireza Karimi (92KG FS)
                Saeid Abdevali (82KG GR)

and how did Reza Atri and Amir Ghasemi-Monjazi qualified the weight for us when they did not win a medal?!!!

It was for top 6. so reaching the bronze medal match was enough. Atri and Ghasemi finished 5th and qualified the weight for Iran

The 3 guys you mentioned were in non-olympic weights where of course there is no qualification.

                      Freestyle

                      57Kg - Reza Atri

                      65Kg - TBC
=> For this weight 4 Asians qualified so far: Daulet Niyazbekov (KAZ), Bajrang Punia (IND), Tömör-Ochiryn Tulga (MGL), Takuto Otoguro (JPN).

                      74Kg - TBC
=> For this weight 2 Asians qualified so far: Daniyar Kaisanov (KAZ), Mao Okui (JPN)

                      97Kg - TBC

                      125 kg - TBC
=> For this weight 3 Asians qualified so far: Khasanboy Rakhimov (UZB), Badzha Khutaba (SYR), Deng Zhiwei (CHN)

Considering that there are 2 spots up for grab from Asian Qualification Tournament and another 2 spots from World Qualification Tournament, let's discuss whether Iran will qualify for
all weight divisions (65, 74, 97 and 125) or if not all which ones will have a strong chance of qualifying and which wrestlers can do that.

first I have to say there will be a blind draw for the Asian Qualifier (at least as of now, they change the rules sometimes) so even being the 2nd best wrestler in the competition may not be enough if you draw with the best wrestler in the same half. because only the finalists qualify for the Olympics.

65, we have some options here, Behnam Ehsanpour moving up from 61, using Amir Mohammad Yazdani again, or Peiman Biabani (World Junior Champion) who lost the trials to Yazdani. I also think about Younes Emami cutting weight to 65. I think any of these guys will be top favorite for the quota in Asia. mostly because all notable Asian wrestlers are already qualified, still it won't be easy. North Korea and China have good wrestlers in this weight, even Bahrain has a Russian wrestler.

74, this is our weakest weight, our best option is Mostafa Hosseinkhani who is recovering from a surgery, if he recovers in time he will be the only option, if not they have to think about using Younes Emami (70kg bronze medalist) or someone else like Ahmad Mohammadi. the best Asian wrestler in this weight is Bekzod Abdurakhmanov from Uzbekistan and he failed to qualify. I think he will be favorite against whoever we send, beside him India has 2 good wrestlers in this weight. I think we can handle the rest. so we have to hope we won't be in the same half as Uzbekistan in this weight. Abdurakhmanov is not unbeatable though. if we fail here there is still chance in the World Qualifier.

97, we have lots of options here, Ali Shaabani, Reza Yazdani, Abbas Foroutan (2 times World Junior Champion) and Mohammad Hossein Mohammadian (former world medalist coming out of 4 years suspension) and also Alireza Karimi (92kg world silver/bronze medalist) I think there is only one dangerous wrestler in Asia. the Uzbek Ibragimov who beat the Iranians several times (including Reza Yazdani at the Olympics) before Karimi finally put an end to his run against us at the Asian Games. he is getting old but still we have to be worried about him. beside him Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan have good wrestlers in this weight but I think any of those 4-5 wrestlers frin Iran will be huge favorite against them.

125, both Parviz Hadi and Yadollah Mohebbi can easily qualify this weight for Iran, the only good Asian wrestler was China and he is already qualified. the rest are easy for both of our top wrestlers.

in short, I'm 99% sure about 125kg, there is a very good chance for 65 and 97. but I'm worried about 74. still I think we will qualify a full team for Tokyo.

67, we have serious problems here, South Korea, Kazakhstan and Japan have world class wrestlers in this weight and we are at best the 4th here in this weight. Hamed Tab failed twice this year. so he is not an option. we can think about Javad Rezaei or Mohammad Eliasi, another option is making Reza Geraei to cut weight from 72 to 67. if we fail in Asia, the world qualifier will be even harder. I think our chance is very slim to qualify this weight.

87, Both Hossein Nouri or Ramin Taheri can easily beat any Asian wrestler. the only dangouer Asian was Uzbekistan and he is already qualified. we have to worry about Kazakhstan and China but I'm confident about this weight.

97, Hadi Saravi didn't medal in Nur-Sultan but he was impressive considering his age and the fact he was very new to 97kg. he will be even stronger next year. Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have OK wrestlers here but I see none of them as a serious threat to our wrestler, unless some accident happens,

in short, I'm confident about 87 and 97 but I have to say 67 is really hard.

so I expect Iran to qualify 10 or 11 wrestlers for Tokyo. 5 in Greco, 5 or 6 in freestyle. but of course we still have 6 more months to work and find someone better.

Anyone watching the world weightlifting championships??

Kianoush Rostami manages to bomb out again. This time with some help from the organizers screwing up the weights when it was his turn.

It also hurts our chances of winning the team title.
