it seems our real final was yesterday. they played great today.
some media in Iran are reporting this is the first time for Iran to have 2 teams in the Olympics but that's wrong, back in 1976 Iran had both Football and Water polo teams
with 12 volleyball players, we have 41 Olympic quotas so far. I already updated the first post. but this is what we have right now
12 Basketball
12 Volleyball
6 Shooting
5 Wrestling
2 Athletics
2 Taekwondo
1 Archery
1 Cycling
Kimia Alizadeh has defected to Holland. She won bronze last olympics. Interestingly second article they cite Mollaie and Faghani as defections as well.
I don't blame her. But how is this acceptable 7 months before the Olympics? I mean isn't it against the rules? Doesn't she have to compete with the 2nd country for a few years at least?
Also, what is her reason for leaving besides the usual khar too khar in Iran?
Not neceassrily. Canada lost a gold medal favourite Keileigh Humphries in bobsled recently to the USA. Rules are she must compete by a deadline for her new nation and the transfer can be granted.
Unless Canada fails to qualify (which seems unlikely) and they follow the serpentine system from the current FIVB World Ranking (as they have done since at least the 2000 Olympics) the volleyball groups will look like this;
Group A:
Japan (hosts)
Poland (3)
Italy (4)
Canada (7) Iran (8)
Tunisia (22)
Group B:
Brazil (1)
USA (2)
Russia (5)
Argentina (6)
France (9)
Colombia (44) / Chile (37) / Venezuela (36)

we can qualify from this group, we will beat japan and tunisia and hpefully canada, and between poland and italy we need to beat one

Would be a nice group for Iran, avoiding the #1 and #2 ranked teams, as well as #5 and #6. In other words, Iran has only 3 higher ranked opponents in Group A, while it would have had 4 higher ranked opponents in Group B.

There is a small mistake here, the last team in our group won't be Tunisia, but that South American team most probably Colombia or Venezuela
