oh well, I'm still feeling terrible because of this. as far as I remember this is the 4th time Iran is missing the WCh because of just 1 goal ! watching Iran handball NT is seriously not good for heart and i'm not kidding, the first time I fell "not good" about my heart was while watching one of their matches. we had 2 goals lead in last 2 minutes, we had the ball in last 30 seconds with 1 goal advantage. but it seems failure and our handball are close friends. they are always good but not good enough. when Asia had 3 slots, Iran finished 4th several times and now Asia has 4 slots we are consistently finishing 5th ! it hurts more because only 2 months ago we beat South Korea in Olympic qualifiers without half of our key players.

speaking of heart breaking defeats, we also another one last night, in Table tennis, our team was so close to beat Slovenia in Olympic qualifier but they failed. Iran lost the series 3-1, in all those 3 defeats Iranian players had the lead. they missed so many set points and even match points.
that means we won't have a "team" in table tennis. we still have a chance to qualify 1 (or maybe even 2) in individual qualifiers.

How will this affect our chances at the Olympics?

This is a good news in general. the guy was very dirty.

but I don't think that changes much about our Olympic chances. they are not going to change the Olympic qualification system.

but things don't look good because apparently Sohrab Moradi is going to miss the "Fajr Cup" in February. it seems he is not fully recovered yet. he needs 2 big results in next 3 months. one of them was supposed to be this Fajr Cup being held in Iran. they still can send him to some other events in late February or March (because there is only 1 event left in April which is the Asian Championship) but if he is not recovered yet, what's his chance to recover in a month to lift something around 380-390kg at least ?!

Our people are too emotional and don't know how to cross the finish line consistently.
It takes a lifetime of practice and dedication to mitigate these kind of issues, but usually we just shout some slogans and hope for the best.

This match broke my heart. We were leading the whole match. We screwed up big time in the final minutes.

Except Iran/Morocco and maybe Australia/iran, I wonder in which case we benefit from a winning/qualifying last second goal..

Can Iran be picked as one of the two wild cards for the world championship? There will be 9 additionnal european teams that will qualify in addition to the already 4 qualified euro teams

I would add Iran vs. US game in '98 WC as well. But basically, without those moments of euphoria (which keeps most TM fans from falling into a deep and permanent depression), it's pretty much disappointment after disappointment.

highly unlikely, I don't think Iran Handball federation even applies for that. they will probably save that for two European teams, we always have 1 or 2 surprises in European playoffs. even with 14 spots available for Europe (13 + Denmark World Champion) there are still some good European teams missing the event. Europe is just too good in this sport.

but who knows, it doesn't hurt asking for that. last time they gave a wild card to Japan and they finished last !! but they were the Olympic host .

There was no last minute winning goal in that game though.

Iran qatar in the last wcq.
Iran finished 6th in the handball championship with a loss to emirates.
I wonder how Arabs are so strong in this sport? The world championship is hosted by Egypt and the following arab teams qualified : Egypt Algeria Morocco Tunisia Qatar bahrein

I'm following the Olympic Qualification process in Karate for almost 2 years and we are getting close to the finish line, we had another one of K1 Premier League events in Paris today, with only 3 more events left, let's take a look at our chance. I will skip both Kata events, we gave up that long time ago

Men's 67kg: it seems we gave up this weight, they are only focusing on Amir Mehdizadeh right now, he will be our representative in last chance qualification tournament. even though it's still mathematically possible for him to win all 3 remaining events and wait for the "Asian quota" but we know that's not going to happen.

Men's 75kg: Bahman Askari is currently #1 in this weight and by my count he is 100% qualified for the Olympics.

Men's +75kg: we have two guys in top 3, Sajjad Ganjzadeh and Zabih Poursheib. while they never fight each other directly because they are in two different weight classes (will be merged for Tokyo) but they are competing with each other to qualify. by my count the quota is 100% guaranteed for Iran, the only question is which of these guys. right now Ganjzadeh is leading by 350pts.

Women's 55kg: Sara Bahmanyar is currently 5th in WR but since this is a merged weight class, she is only competing with other 50kg girls with only top 2 qualifying, she is #2 right now with something like 900pts advantage over the next best girl. that's very good but not safe at all. we also have Taravat Khaksar in this weight being ranked #8 but she is competing with 55kg girls and she is 2000pts behind top 2. I say it's almost impossible for her.

Women's 61kg: Paris K1 event was disastrous for Rozita Alipour, she was 5th but now 7th. her chance is not great to make top 4 and qualify directly but still not impossible but she needs big results in remaining 3 events. there is another way for her to qualify, if Iran wins quota in two other women's categories, there is a chance for her to win the lone Asian quota. (which is available to best ranked non-qualified Asian athlete across all events)

Women's +61kg: Hamideh Abbasali was the star of our Karate team in this Paris event by winning the gold which improved her chance massively. she is currently #2 overall but she is #1 among +68kg athletes . she has to stay in top 2. and right now she has 1000pts advantage over the rest. she is in a very good position, but still needs 1 more big result to make sure.

                        ---------------------
in short, 2 quotas are already confirmed for Iran. we have no chance for men's 67kg.
and on the women's side, Abbasali looks very good in the ranking, Bahmanyar is also good (not as good as Abbasali) but still they are not safe. of course it also depends on her direct rivals. Alipour still can qualify herself directly or she can count on other results to win the Asian quota. I believe we have a good chance to win all 3 available women's quotas which will be a huge success. considering our current situation in Taekwondo. I think Karate is our only realistic chance to win medals at the Olympics by our girls,

Qatar and Bahrain are buying foreigners.

Qatar yes almost the whole squad

but Bahrain no, not even one non-Bahraini player. I know they buy foreigners in other sports specially Track and feild, but not in handball, not even one. I have to admit they have a great team for such a small country.

and even about Qatar, almost half of their players still have Arabic origin, they are mostly from Tunisia and Egypt. these 2 countries have world class handball teams.

Taekwondo: Iran's Zolghadri moves to Bulgaria to pursue Olympic dream

                                https://www.yahoo.com/sports/taekwon...153015877.html

"I like Iran, this is my country," Zolghadri, 27, told Reuters after a training session with the Bulgarian national taekwondo team in Sofia. "But the competition there is tough and I'll have much better chances to fulfill my dreams competing for Bulgaria."

"Taekwondo is hugely popular in Iran, there are one million taekwondo competitors there and it's really difficult," added Zolghadri, who won a silver medal at the 2015 World Cup in Mexico and a bronze medal at the Asian Championship in 2009.
