and that considering we were super close to beat Brazil, had few Match points in the 4th set of that game, is amazing.
          Hope they keep it up.

Agreed. Also, many of the teams this year look really good. Even the ones that are not in the top ten are performing well. No team can be taken for granted.

The game against Russia will be very important mentally for the boys.

Because if we beat them at their home soil in August in what will be a very crucial match we will qualify for the Olympics.

Top 24 volleyball teams in the world have been drawn into 6 groups of four teams. The winner of each group will qualify for the Olympics directly. Iran's group consists of Russia, Cuba and Mexico, and the games will be played in Russia from 9-11 August. So basically we have to finish above Russia in that group which means beating them in the direct match, since the other 2 teams should be easily beatable.

Of course if we fail to achieve that we still have another shot to qualify at the continental tournament afterwards.

That's great news. Thanks for explaining. Amazing how far we have come in volleyball. From barely beating teams like India and Taiwan in the 90s to now competing regularly with the top 10.

The key to it all - youth development. The moment we start doing the same in football - the results will speak for themselves.

                        You are welcome!
Amazing indeed. You know I never thought I would see these days in our volleyball. I remember in my youth days the rare occasions that we used to make it to the world champs we already expected to lose all group matches 3-0 even to the likes of Puerto Rico. Getting a set from China, Japan or Korea was a big achievement back then. It all changed when our youth teams started performing on world level in early 2000s.

I don't think beating Russia in this tournament counts.

This tournament has nothing to do with Olympic qualifying.

And that's why Italy, USA and some other teams are testing younger players.

                          But I maybe wrong!

Lets hope and pray our volleyball doesn’t get destroyed by media and hashiyeh etc like our football. Hope this one team sport of ours stays clean, and also Basketball follows suit!

I never said it counts! I said we should beat them in that match in August to qualify and beating them next week will be a mental and psychological boost.
