    Since Iran will have home games for 2 straight weeks, the final stage is pretty much done deal for iran. This year they will attack for the title

      Don't take home games for granted. Half of them are against top teams. If we win 4 out of 6 in Iran we have done fantastic!!

          ^^we have to get full points against japan and keep the pace with the other top teams. We tend to struggle in long tournaments. we are barely in two rounds into it.
          IRI = FAILED

            Guys it's too early to celebrate, some of our players were deadly tired today. even Japan match will be really hard. unlike other teams we are not rotating players, they can't play all 15 matches in the same level.

            and yeah our home matches will be against France, Russia and Poland ! they are very hard to beat no matter where ! even Canada is tough. only Australia and Portugal matches are considered "not that hard"

            I really hope we beat Japan tomorrow, they beat Argentina 3-0 and they play fantastic volleyball despite being very short. yes they can't challenge taller teams like Brazil or Russia. but we are not a "tall team" for Japan. we lost to Japan last year in VNL. time for a revenge.

              Next two games are against Japan and Canada. Japan is in the middle of the 16-team table, so not a huge threat (on paper). Canada is in the middle of the top half. Iran *should* be able to handle them both, after beating the likes of Italy & Argentina and nearly beating Brazil. Keep up the great run gentleman!

                  yeah there are a few new players I hadn't seen before. Nice to see some younger players in addition to the very experienced.

                    I love the big "Nippon" chants from the japan fans even though we're up 2-0. Dameshoon garm.

                    And of course dameh bacheha garm.

                    This is shaping up to be a great year for these guys, this is the net result of patience and having a long-term plan. I wish our football could have the same.

                      What happens when Saeid Marouf retires? I hope with conditioning we can get 4 more years out of him

                        Another amazing win for the boys! 5 wins in 6 games.
                        We have 9 more games, and 5 more wins should be enough to secure qualification to the final round.

                          I think it is a combination of a few factors. Actually the new players haven't been the stars of the tournament! Our best players in order have been Fayyazi, Marouf, Ghafour, Mousavi and Ebadipour! They are the unreplaceable players in the team at the moment.

                          The first factor is that the team is in a good mental form and the players have a very good relationship with the coach.
                          Another factor is our players leaving Iran and playing in world's best leagues in the past year (Italy, Poland). You can clearly see Ebadipour, Marouf, and specially Ghafour are playing in another level compared to past few years. Not to downgrade our league, whose MVP of the past year (Fayyazi) has been the star of the tournament.
