    Bye bye 👋 Colombia

Also...This going straight to penalties kills the tournament and lowers quality! Why no extra time?!

I think Chile will go for the 3-peat, they are tournament type of team!

Chilean team was too physical for Colombia. Just seemed like the colombians couldn't offer much going forward. I think that it is totally BS though that this matchup occured so early on while Argentina and Brazil got Venezuela/Paraguay respectively. Chile also hit those penalties like ospina owed them dinner.

Why did you have to jinx them too?

Every single thing you've said in this thread has subsequently lead to the opposite happening. I was hoping for Chile to make it through the semi and now beat Argentina or Brazil in the final.

Colombia got eliminated from the Cup without a single goal conceded. Pure bad luck..

Colombia were impressive this tournament. Navigating their group with 3 wins and without a goal conceded. I thought they even looked good in first half of this much. Second half they ran out of ideas/steam. But what a match, it was truly like a war. I would liken national european football to something like an orchestra, whereas south american is completely different gaucho mentality. Very hardcore. Lot of breaks in play because of physicality, but the quality is there for all to see. Defensively both teams packed in very well, and colombia were trying to utilize james as much as possible who looked great in flashes, while chile dominated the midfielded with the three of pulgar, vidal, and aranguiz.

Colombia have a lot of potential though, zapata and arias will surely end up being mainstays sooner or later. Barrios is going from strength to strength. Two excellent center backs and even a 3rd option lucumi, just 19 and already with belgian champions genk. But still, this tournament was really early for CQ after a couple months in charge. Acquited himself well, but will need more time to mold this colombia team into his vision.

Chile though, incredible. I really thought they would be over the hill this tournament. Vidal getting quite old, alexis never looking like himself anymore, only pulgar and maripan as new european based, younger players. But they have an unbelievable mentality and still looked quality throughout. Deserved winners. Technically they were superior to the colombians, something I didnt expect.

Even CQ could not overcome the Chile curse over Columbia. The tournament format was unlucky (Argentina getting Venezuela; while Columbia gets Chile). CQ is still the man for beating Argentina and topping the group. Good luck to them in the future.

I think the Chileans showed far more threat from set pieces and had better control of the ball, allowing them to push down Colombia’s wings and create good crossing chances. Colombia looked better in quick transition but I think their forwards just didn’t show up today, especially Cuadrado who was dreadful.

It's not that big of a rivalry even historically Argentina vs Uruguay is the classical South America match up.

That might be up there with the best penalty shootout ever from a team, perfect penalties from Chile.

                            Brazil v Argentina

                            Chile v Peru

Two of the biggest rivalries in South American football as semis.

Can't wait, and don't want to jynx the team I want to win...

Chile's penalties against Colombia were the best 5 penalties i've ever seen.

Another argument for the "experienced squad" in knockout tournaments. Teams which are supposedly past their "golden age" seem to always do well imho
