One thing is for sure : this kind of tournament replacing meaningless friendlies further increases the gap between Europe and the rest of the world (even South America).

We NEED an equivalent in Asia (or Asia/Africa/Oceania together) with the same kind of format or else the competitive football that Europeans play will give them huge advantages when it comes to being ready for the elite tournaments.

Don't forget, we drew against this team which has now won both the European trophies (Euro 2016 and Nations League 2019).

You can say they didn't go too far in the WC, but maybe because they played against Spain, an African team down as the dark horse of the tournament (which didn't concede a single goal in WCQ) and an equally frugal side which was top of the rankings in Asia.

It's just a league-based tournament with promotion and relegation for European teams and a knock-out for the top 4 teams. Will happen every 2 years. This series started just after WC2018 and finished now.

It replaces friendlies for European sides and produces a huge gulf of competitive football between European teams and other sides.

Portugal won the final 1-0 against Netherlands.

I like it because it gives some competition to international weekends as opposed to random friendlies.

It's good but needs tweaks. The only issue is what does it actually mean because we already have the European Championships. There's no essence to it.

And it's just another way to qualify for an ever-expanding Euros. Nevermind the fact that one of the worst teams in Europe is guaranteed to make Euro 2020...
