Top 5 sports you want Iran to be a superpower in

I guess the correct word would be ''powerhouse'' and not ''superpower''. A superpower is like being the very best and having maybe 1 other team that can rival you. "Powerhouse" would be more fitting, it's like being in the top 8.
Iran is already a powerhouse in wrestling, weightlifting, volleyball, futsal, beach soccer, taekwondo, karate and some lesser known sports such as wushu and Kabadi.
The one sport we are possibly a superpower in is wrestling.
I don't see Iran becoming a superpower in any other sport, but I dream of seeing us as a powerhouse one day in the following sports:
Women's football
Women's volleyball
Men's ice hockey
Women's ice hockey
And of course our very own Team Melli.

How do sports interact with Iranian university system? When I was enrolled at Shareef for a single term back in 1992, the entire curriculum was one year that consisted of physical fitness activities. I recall us having to do a certain number of push-ups and timed running to get a pass grade. In U.S. there are organized collegiate sports which feed into both Olympics and professional leagues later on.

Most kids in the elite universities in Iran aren't there for athletics so they don't exactly attract the sporting crowd (exceptions like Daei, Dadkan, Zolfagharnasab...).
In the US you have entire colleges which depend on things like college football and basketball which is very odd to me.

About basketball, well just look at the nba. There are more and more foreign players from different countries. They're now coming from Africa, Europe, Asia, Oceania, South America which wasn't the case 20-25 years ago. Before you'd have perhaps a few players from eastern European countries and that's it.
