You're totally right but I would also add that the competition has gotten way tougher in Freestyle. Many countries didn't give as much importance to Freestyle as we do/did in Iran in the past. Our achievements in GR are on the other hand amazing. We can thank our Southern guys for dominating and being so good at GR.
Don't forget a lot of other countries include former Russian wrestlers since Russia is banned. I can only name a handful of strong wrestling countries that purely use their own true wrestlers (Japan, Iran and USA...) there are probably more but can't think of them.
We are in a slump of form. We are still very good in Freestyle. Kamran got unlucky. He is still the best in the weight class and sadulaev only relies on momentary brilliance. This works for now, but he is done as a wrestler. Doing badalkari is lottery.
Welp.
Ghassempour loses to Taylor. They had a plan for him. He was up 2-0 at the break, Taylor came in more energetic to take advantage of the conditioning difference and managed to score two takedowns. He defended well, and Kamran couldn't score for a minute and a half. At least this answers any 'what if's' about who should've gone to olympics at 86kg.
We really shat the bed in FS. One bronze is horrible.
disappointing from Kamran. From almost handing an L to the best of his generation to coming home empty handed after losing to a washed DT

Agreed
DT is iranians worst matchup. I keep on saying this but everyone is looking for excuses, our wrestlers are one dimensional. We are terrible against wrestlers like him plus -good- japanese shooters and take Ls on a steady basis.
Iranians need to understand this: Lucho/Mazendarani style is perfect as a base, but we dont complement our superior wrestling base with technically sound alternatives.
Some people act like this is a controversial statement. We need solutions when we face into bumps. Look at Sadulaev: he does this to everyone. First he wrestles traditionally with good positioning and shoots etc. Then when he faces resistance he keeps on pulling superior techniques to find openings and get back in the fight.
Iranian Greco is successful because it is state run from above and they implement whatever is needed from above and have control. Freestyle is old school run with local coaches and local traditions. While this is good we need a blend and the federation taking a grip of our weaknesses.
Every year we say FS is our strong branch of wrestling, every year we cry stating bad luck (Sad fight was bad luck, DT fight wasnt ofc). Every year we sugar coat our failures.
Bana instilled par terre defence and then he instilled superior gut wrenching to our guys. They were not as good in finding openings on the feet. This was good as long as the greco rules circled around being superior in par terre positions, both defence and offence.
When they changed the rules our guys started to face problems which they tried to mitigate by constant underhooks and pressure and pushouts. This ameloriated the situation a good bit but still made us loose badly and systematically.
The federation saw this and started to implement other techniques to our guys because of changed rules and circumstances in order to win. It took a new generation of wrestlers but finally we got back into the top.
Imagine if the federation (and to a certain extent clubs) wouldnt have taken the responsibility seriously of adapting to new rules and implementing new techniques?

This is difference between greco and FS in iran.
Very good point!
What I also noticed these last few years, is the speed and stamina difference even in heavier weights where we are usually superior. Our guys are either very technical and usually make it up with technical superiority or they do show some speed, fast execution but even if it has improved, stamina has always been an issue for us.
And by speed, I do mean how quick a wrestler is, the game is more explosive than it used to be but there's also being quick at executing moves. I'll take again this final between Hajiloueian and Aitmukhan, as an example. It's probably the eye opener to get where are our issues in general.
Aitmukhan has already been a world champion in the seniors. Hajiloueian looked good offensively, he had the "upper hand" on several occasions but Aitmukhan's reflexes, speed turned almost all 2 points opportunities for Hajiloueian into points for himself while being on the edge.
I genuinely believe that sometimes depending on the wrestler of course, they should turn them into physical beasts instead of technical "talents". Most of them know the game pretty well already.
Have you seen Ono Masanosuke? That Japanese kid comes from another planet. He's fast, aggressive, finish his matches looking like he barely made any effort.
Of course, we can't change the way we wrestle but in today's wrestling, we need to be more sharp than ever.
