This guy is competing for the u20 gold medal in 74 kg. Diz you asked about prospects. This guy has what it takes. Aghaei is a kid and does this to a bronze senior. I think the fact that Aghaei reaches medals in under senior championships and also defeats older guys means alot. I mean he does not have to beat all seniors being under 20. But if he can manage to beat good seniors he is my best bet of future prospect. Even amouzad didnt beat everyone in his first senior appearances. What excites me about this kid is that he wrestles traditionally, but is also good at traditional iranian scrambling. He scrambles good and also is hard to gut wrench and reminds me of ghassempour in this sense. He ruined the indian guys gut wrench the same way ghassempour ruined that russians in latest worlds. When iranians meet americans that can both shoot good and scramble folkstyle good I always get nervous. With a guy like aghaei i dont feel as nervous.

On his way to this years final he beat the russian dude convincingly and now have to face an american. I am super excited to see if he can stave off american scrambles if the fight take that turn. Last year it was a tight fight with american winning 9-7. This is the best final in this tournament I think.

We also have azimi and masoumi in finals. Azimi and Masoumi have been dominant so far.

Iranian 74 aghaei got totally outclassed. He got undrrhooked 25 times. This guy will be good in future but my hopes went down.

Azimi with a hard fought victory 5-4. Je was the better wrestler and controlled the fight and showed better defence and capitalized better.

I think that kazakh guy is a good senior wrestler already.

With this win iran wins the team title with 1 final left. Masoumi.

Masoumi completely dominates Akhmatov by teching him 11-0. This Akhmatov guy kept hitting Masoumi and was a nasty piece of work. He truly represent the worst part about russian wrestling culture. Russian wrestlers have no honor.

Congrats to Iran!!! 4 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 bronze in 10 weight classes. 86 kg we had no medal, 57 kg no medal and another weight class. 57 kg is most worrisome.

Other than that we are world champs in u20 3rd time in a row! 2021 we got 5 gold medals, 2022 3 gold medals and this year 4 gold medals!

Since 2020 I also have the feeling that we transition wrestlers into senior championships much better. We solidify our grip on junior levels next to senior level really good.

The finals have not been posted as of now. Live on UWW homepage charges a fee. I watched from Varzesh channel with iranian commentators! But after the fights they post and archive the fights on uww free of charge (also bear in mind uww will soon post everything on youtube). As of now you access archived fights the following way:

Go to results section on u20 championships on UWW homepage. Click on the name of the fighter and all the fighters fights up until the most recent ones are streamable.

Until UWW archives and publishes the finals I will try to find iranian links.

bwahahaha USA, a nation as big as the whole EU with per capita higher than EU and good wrestling culture have problems with a small, medium income country. Poor working class youth wrestlers of Iran are manhandling the most powerful country on earth.

97 kg final. Babaloo controlling the mat and hit hard and fast on counters. He is no Reza Yazdani but he is clearly and convincingly senior material.

Also much respect for ukrainian wrestler on quite good hand fighting and above all fighting a clean fight. This os the most ultra clean wrestling fight in ages. The ukranian showed rsally good sportsmanship. Compare it to how the russian behaved. (Im not doing this comparison bc of politics)

A ton of credit should go to Dabir. Yes, the guy from a political and personal level is a piece of work, a serial khayemal of the worst kind, but on a professional level he has gone above and beyond as head of our federation. Constantly complaining for and actually getting more funding (from both governmental and external sources), building multiple new state of the art facilities, 3x in a row u20 team titles, now u17 team title.

Next up will be paris olympics, I think there is a good chance we make some history there.

I share your sentiment to 100 percent! Really good point. Dabir is actually ba savad too which helps alot. As you say at least he is our snake in some ways!

Look at this! This is new to me that he actually engages and train the youth national team himself. That in itself is great. But what is beyond is that he has the philosophy of teaching how to apply basics in real competition situations. His instructions regarding yek dast yek pah (firemans carry) is telling. The sooner the kids in national team learn that applying techniques means you have to adapt them, the sooner they will become proficient in carrying out them in competitions. There are other clips where he shows from which angle you have to do bar-andazi too (gut wrenching). Its impressive that our kids learn these things, like doing firemans carry from both knees and gut wrenching from 45 degree angles (tilting forward-sideways). Funny thing is a guy like JB never learnt how to gut. These kids are in other words further in their development than what JB was att this age. It will save many of them many unecessary losses.

These kinds of obstacles, ie applying techniques, are what is ruining many wrestlers in transition into seniors.
