Geraei’s path to the final:

1/8: wins 9-0 in less than 3 min (before halftime)
1/4: wins 5-1 in less than 2 minutes after KOR opponent withdraws from a WWF slam by Geraei
1/2: wins 8-0 in 2 minutes

In summary: He hasn’t had to wrestle a full match yet and had ONE point scored against him total!

Overall terrible results in the first day for Iran in the first 8 weights (out of 10 for Greco). No medals in the four weight classes that finished today (55/72/77 and 87 kg) and our only gold medal favourite for tomorrow is Mohammad Reza Geraei. We are also wrestling for bronze in 63 and 97kg.

So best case scenario is we walk away with 1 gold and 2 bronze from 8 out of the 10 weight classes in Greco. That is honestly terrible especially considering the fact that the biggest wrestling power, being Russia, is banned from participating.

Serbia has basically already won the team tile in greco...

I am just waiting on freestyle in which we typically do better and is more Iran's specialty. I really can't wait to see Yazdani wrestle.

greco is very unpredictable, a lot of it to do with the discipline itself. Prime example is serbia coming from out of nowhere this year

Last year we did amazing. Geraei, Dalkhani, Saravi, and Yousofi won gold and Poshtam + MohammadAli Geraei won bronze. Think we took team silver and only narrowly lost out on team Gold to Russia.

This time probably we end with Geraei Gold, Saravi Bronze, and maybe something in the heavyweight.

No shame but the guy is 32 and Saravi was looking amazing up until the semis.

Amin Mirzazadeh won his semifinal match and is going to wrestle for gold at 130kg. His opponent is one of the all-time greats Riza Kayaalp. It is nearly impossible for Mirzazadeh to defeat Kayaalp so we are looking at a very likely silver medal at 130kg. If Mirzazadeh defeats Kayaalp this would be a major upset.

Geraei wrestles for gold in around 9 AM (Pacific)/ 12 PM (Eastern)/ 6PM (CET) which is less than 1 hour from now.

Najati lost his bronze medal match against a Chinese wrestler. Iran's terrible greco results continue.

Geraei coming up soon and fighting for gold. If he wins gold it will slightly lessen the terrible results for Iran in greco.
