Great first day for Greco in the Asian Championship. All 5 wrestlers medaled. We won 4 gold medals, and got a silver. The wrestler who got silver was injured in the semifinal match and had to forfeit in the final.

Thats such a shame. Since a few years back we have had high hopes for this Kayvaninejad guy. He is solid and was a huge talent coming up. Somehow his senior carreer stagnated. He made a good run in 2020 asian champs but have not had any breakthrough since then. This time knee injury took him out. If he had defeated current asian and world champ in that final, he would have made the world team easily and been a worlds fav.

Okay so greco this year: 5 golds, 2 silvers and 1 bronze. A strong performance and continuity since last year from our boys! Last year we had 4 golds 1 silver and 2 bronze! Last year 176 point for team tally, this year 196 points if I have gotten all the counting correct.

Also note that this is not exactly our first team since many top world champs or former world champs didnt participate. Saravi was not there, Geraei younger was not there etc. Delkhani was not there either.

But these guys compete in our strong and stacked weights so I dont think it mattered for us so much not having them there. Also 196 points is a a peak going into olympics next year.

With these guys being in form we are assured that replacements for injuries will be good. Remember Iran have traditionally form problems going into olympics. Its the same thing every olympics.

I have high hopes for this Dad Marz kid. He is actually until recently u23 world champion and have this champion quality of facing senior opposition in junior years and doing quite good. This is the most certain indicator that we have a future world champion. Besides being vital of getting that first senior level cold shower in competition it also signals that he is THAT GOOD. I think kadre fani and coaches are really planning for and believing in olympic gold in 2024 for this guy. Its a stacked weight in greco so lets hope! Its been a while since this was our weight!

then I REALISE OTHER NATIONS CARE ABOUT OLYMPIC MEDALS more than they do about world championship ,thats why we dont perform our best in olympics reason is other nations invest money to win Olympic medals.

Yes ofc this may be true to some extent but this does not exclude that form issues are a major if not the biggest factor. Our problem is that our wrestlers are injury prone. Reza Yazdani ought to be 2x olympic champ but injuries ruined his medal stats. Dabir ruined his shoulder and you couldnt notice any difference in performance between worlds and olympics on his part. Hassan Rahimi performed as good in both comps. The list goes on.

Ofc olympics is always harder to win but the stats are so scewed in Irans case that we cannot explain this by saying other teams dont care about world medals as much. The biggest factor scewing stats is iran iraq war but we see conditioning issues every years besides iranian wrestlers being injury prone. Difference between our and other countries champs is that their bodies last 2x times compared to ours.

Another issue is we have great wrestlers across all weights, but Olympics have only limited amount of weights. So basically one of our best guy, Ghasempoor, has to go up 5 kilos to have a chance to go to Olympics. People don’t realize what kind of disadvantage 5 kilo is when you are going against the likes of Snyder and Sadulaev. We have guy’s who are basically stuck in no man’s land. Also the injury is mostly attributed to how stack each weight division is in Iran. Most of our guy’s have battles and fight tooth and nail to make it to Olympics and that wears on you. The only other countries that have the depth we do is Russia and to an extent US. The Russians have the finest recovery tools ie ICARUS. And the Americans are never lacking in resources.
