It was Messi with his freekicks, genius passes and solo goals, dribbling's that brought Argentina constantly into the Finals of the Copa America and the WC Final in 2014.
For Barca it is obvious that Messi performed GREAT against any Top Team in Europe scoring in both finals against Fergusons ManUnited, destroying Real in various Classicos, destroying teams like Arsenal, Milan, Bayern, Chelsea, Liverpool, PSG in CL, scoring the beautiful solo goal against Bilbao to decide the Copa Del Rey etc etc. Ronaldo had never the same role in Real Madrid as Messi had in Barca. Ronaldo cant dribble pass 5 players scoring a goal, create chances out of nowhere. In fact he scored many Tapins and Penalties. There were many games were Ronaldo didnt show up, all the Games that he made for Juve and were they failed to advanced to the next stage, or even in the curcial WC 2018 game aginst IRan were he missed a penalty and Taremi had the chance to send us to the knockout stage.
Also when Portugal won the Euroas against France in the finals Ronaldo was sub. out due to an injury and did until that time nothing special.

Ronaldo is one dimensional and much easier to defend. Most defenders affirm that. Ronaldo is just a goal-scorer and strong in the air, messi can change the game
with a pass, with dribbling, free-kick, etc. He is just much more well-rounded and natural talent.
The 3 CL victories of CR7 in Madrid were much more a Team effort and i would argue that it was Ramos who saved their butts many times, specially for the last two CL victories.

If we look at world cups, Messi took Argentina to the Finals, he was crucial in every game they had back in 2014, CR7 Portugal couldn't even make it out of their group i believe!
