What a horrible performance by Nejati. Shameful.

No he wont. At least it is very unlikely. The Armenian has to make it to the final for Nejati to get a shot at repechage which won't happen because the Armenian has to beat the 2x world champion Japanese wrestler.
Originally posted by inarsenewetrust View Posthonestly he has himself to blame. He was the superior wrestler but the 2pointer he gave away on edge of mat when the armenian had no ability to make a takedown himself was really bad. He paid for that in the end.
He will have chance in repechage for bronze

I agree. They need a sports psychologist because too often if the officiating isnt the cause of defeats it is ourselves. Our athletes lose focus and make mistakes all the time at crucial moments. Its like they crumble under the pressure. They often have the physical abilities to beat anyone but lack the mental acumen to do so.

As for Nejati, idk WhY these losses happen to us every olympics. These boys train and train and train but there is no killer mentality . Our athletes need sports therapy more than anything.

For those wondering about why Nejati lost, it’s not just whoever scored last. If there is a tie, the first tie breaker is who scored the biggest # points or moves. If it’s 5-5, with one wrestler scoring two 2pt moves and one 1pt move but the other wrestler scoring one 2pt move and three 1pt moves, the first wrestler wins.
Nejati has only himself to blame. He was sloppy and didn’t seal the deal when he could early in the match and also gave away crappy points. The referees can always be a wild card and yes one of the Armenians moves was given a little weakly but still Nejati had it in his hands and just didn’t seal the deal. He did not wrestle convincingly enough to imagine he is a world champion…
The Armenian will likely lose to Japan’s Futima if he even gets that far. I think Nejatis olympics is over, sadly.

Dramatic? No medals in Taekwondo? Being robbed in fencing? In the first day of wresting our wrestler with the easiest path to the semis is out after the first match and our 130kg wrestler gets an insanely difficult bracket with little chance to advance, having to face two of the greatest 130KG greco wrestlers in the history of the sport.

This will be big learning point for him and hopefully he returns in 3 years time in paris ready to take medal.
It seems the fact that our main weightlifters did not even make olympics and taekwando failures are putting a lot of pressure on wrestlers to produce. Some of them really do need to but somebody like nejati I dont think was such a huge tragedy.

Fencing was unlucky but not really as disastrous as you make it seem.
The fact that we got a gold in shooting offsets any of those disappointments so far imo
Now if the Volleyball team loses tonight and we fail to move to the next stage, then that will definitely be disappointing
