Hashemian shines in Bundesliga derby [VIDEO]
PFDC – BOCHUM, Vahid Hashemian came off the bench to help his club Vfl Bochum to make up a two-goal deficit with a goal and an assist in a 2-2 draw against Schalke 04 on Saturday.
Schalke, coached by Hashemian’s former boss at Bayern Munich Felix Magath, was fighting for the lead in German Bundesliga after four wins in a row, and it seemed they would be celebrating another victory when they managed to go ahead by two goals in first half already.
However, Bochum never looked like giving up and, especially after Hashemian came on 18 minutes from time, caused much trouble for Schalke’s defense.
After not conceding a goal for 536 minutes in Bundesliga, the Iranian striker rather easily stopped Schalke’s run, when he, surprisingly completely unmarked, vollied a corner kick into the net from close range, eight minutes from time.
It was Hashemian’s second goal of the season.
But it came even better for Bochum and the 33-year-old in the first minute of injury time, when he perfectly controlled a long pass on the left wing, beautifully managed to create himself space against rightback Rafinha and midfielder Moritz and sent a pinpoint cross to Sestak in center, who headed the ball into the net.
“Especially in second half we played more aggressively and courageously”, a very happy Vahid Hashemian told reporters after the match.
“The late goal from Sestak was very beautiful and important, so we could turn the tide.
“Before my substitution, the coach told me to score one and assist another. And that’s what I did. Maybe he should tell me that every week”, the smiling former Bayern Munich man added.
