Bagheri, Iran’s “Footballer of the Year”
MNA – TEHRAN, Persepolis captain Karim Bagheri has been named Iran’s “Footballer of the Year”, according to a poll taken by the popular Monday night Iranian channel-3 TV program “90”.
Bagheri won 59 percent of the votes in the seven-candidate race. Osasuna midfielder Javad Nekounam was selected for second place with 18 percent, Esteghlal striker Farhad Majidi became third scoring 11 percent, Ali Karimi of Steel Azin came fourth with 8 percent, Sepahan keeper Mehdi Rahmati won two percent of the votes and Zob Ahan’s Mohammad-Reza Khalatbari and Osasuna’s Masoud Shojaei came seventh and eighth respectively, both with one percent.
The 36-year-old midfielder has played for Germany’s Arminia Bielefeld and al-Sadd of Qatar as well as Persepolis. Bagheri played 80 times for Iran national football team and scored 50 goals.
