Ali Karimi calls for stability in national team
MNA – TEHRAN, Ali Karimi Iran veteran midfielder said on Friday that managerial changes in Team Melli would wreak havoc in the team.
Iran Football Federation (IFF) recently announced that it is going to replace the current national team coach Afshin Ghotbi with a big name.
“Team Melli needs stability at the moment. It’s none of my business but I think the IFF officials should keep the current coaches in place for the upcoming competitions,” Karimi wrote on his personal website.
“We don’t have enough time for the 2011 Asian Cup and it is a fact that changing (coaches) is not a good solution,” Steel Azin club key player added.
Ghotbi is under contract with the IFF until the end of the AFC Asian Cup 2011. However, there is a clause in the deal which allows the Iranian federation to end his contract. In any case, the IFF have to pay remuneration to the current Iranian coach.
Ghotbi stated in a letter on Tuesday that he will not work with a foreign coach and requested the IFF to be clear on the matter.
