Esteghlal: Marfavi resigns

PFDC – TEHRAN, Despite a recent one-year contract extension last week, Samad Marfavi announced his resignation as Esteghlal coach.
According to the club’s website and media coverage, the 45-year-old resigned shortly after the final round of the Iranian Pro League on Wednesday.
After a flattering 1-1 tie against the homeside Peykan Ghazvin which led to the loss of the second place in the current championship, Esteghlal fans criticized Marfavi harshly and called for his dismissal.
In contrary to expectations, Marfavi and the Esteghlal management had agreed on extending his contract for another year last Thursday.
