Iran, who had to do without the slightly injured captain Ali Karimi, took the lead in minute 12, when a long goalkick from Mehdi Rahmati became the perfect serving for Mohammad-Reza Khalatbari, who beat his marker thanks to his high pace and smacked the ball into the net.
An interesting game with chances on both side emerged, but it needed a big blunder by Milad Zanidpour for Lazio to level the scoreline. 11 minutes from time the Steel Azin winger failed to clear the ball away and accidently set up Bresciano, who converted from close range.
