Team_Melli_SKMNA – YEREVAN, Iran is to play a friendly match against Armenia in Yerevan, Armenia on Wednesday.

Afshin Ghotbi’s team has some key players missing such as Ali Karimi, Masoud Shojaei and Andranik Tetymourian; however, Armenia will also be without its Ukraine-based pair Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Artak Dashyan.

“We selected Armenia as our opponent because they play like Arab teams especially like Iraqis. Armenia is a European team who can be a good experiment for us,” Afshin Ghotbi stated.

Iran has been drawn along with Iraq, North Korea and the UAE in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup.

Armenia, who is ranked 96th in FIFA list, has already lost to Belarus 3-1 and defeated Uzbekistan 3-1.

To play against Iran, ranked 64th in the world, will be Armenia’s last test ahead of Euro 2012 qualifications. Vardan Minasyan’s team is in Group B along with Russia, Slovakia, the Republic of Ireland, Macedonia and Andorra.

The warm-up match will take place at the Hrazdan Stadium at 9:00pm local time.
