PFDC – AMMAN, Bahrain came back from the 0-3 defeat to Iran in the opening game and managed to down Oman 2-0 in their second and final group match of the 2010 WAFF Championship on Sunday.

Two second half goals by striker Ismael Abdullatif were enough to keep Bahrain’s hopes of qualifying for the semifinals as best runner-up alive and to put Oman under pressure to beat Iran on Tuesday.

Later on Sunday, Kuwait started their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Syria, who are now out of the competition. Hosts Jordan, after their 1-1 draw against Syria on Friday, now need to defeat Kuwait on Tuesday to avoid elimination.

Nine teams, divided into three groups of as many teams, started to compete for the 2010 WAFF Championship. The three group winners as well as the best runner-up will qualify for the semifinal stage.
