MNA – TEHRAN, Ali Kaffashian, president of Iran football federation, dismissed speculation that Frank Rijkaard will replace Iran coach Afshin Ghotbi in January 2011.

Iran football coach Afshin Ghotbi will not extend his contract after the 2011 AFC Asian Cup and the Iranian media have reportedly announced former Galatasaray coach Frank Rijkaard will replace him after the event.

“I have not heard anything about that,” Kaffashian added.

Kaffashian also revealed the U.S. soccer officials are eager to play a friendly with Iran at the Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.

“I met the U.S. soccer federation president Mr. Sunil Gulati in Zurich, Switzerland last week. We talked about playing a friendly although the exact date has yet to be decided. Mexico football officials also are willing to play with us and the friendly match will be arranged after we receive their e-mail,” Kaffashian told ISNA.

Iran and the U.S. have played against each other twice. Iran defeated the U.S. 2-1 in the 1998 FIFA World Cup and drew with the American team 1-1 in a friendly held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California in 1999.
