Asian Cup mascots unveiled in Doha
The mascots are Jerboas, a rodent found in the deserts of Qatar. They are a five-person family from different locations in the North, South, East and West of Qatar.
Asian Football Confederation (AFC) General Secretary Alex Soosay believes the mascot family perfectly symbolize the Qatari heritage, culture and hospitality.
“As we all know, the mascots always carry a significant meaning, and represent a national culture and heritage,” said Soosay.
“And the mascot of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011 represents Qatar and its hospitality, which has been the country’s remarkable feature over the years.”
The AFC Asian Cup 2011 will bring together the continent’s 16 leading team, including the four countries which qualified for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa – South Korea, Japan, Ausralia and North Korea.
The event will be held from January 7 to 29.
