Nigeria to compensate Iran for cancelled game
MNA – TEHRAN, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has agreed to pay $250,000 compensation to Iran due to cancelation of a friendly match between the two countries’ football teams.
The friendly was originally scheduled for November 17 last year in Tehran, but the African powerhouse team pulled out of the match because of its inability to assemble its elite foreign-based players.
The Iranian football federation had originally asked for $300,000 as compensation. FIFA supported Iran’s case and found that there was no hard evidence for Nigeria to cancel the match.
“We have reached a mutual consensus of paying them $250,000. We don’t have any other option in this case,” said NFF spokesperson Ademola Olajire in defense of the controversial payment.
