Iran beats UAE for Beach Soccer World Cup final berth

beach-football_origMNA – MUSCAT, Iran overpowered the UAE and booked a berth in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2011 Asian qualifier.

In the third place match, the Iranian outfit thrashed the UAE 6-2 at the Al Mussanah Sports City in Muscat, Oman.

Iran had lost to Japan in a penalty shoot-out in the tournament. Japan won the championship by beating host Oman 2-1.
A total of 12 teams, divided into three groups, took part in the event. This is the fourth time that Iran will participate in the Beach Soccer World Cup.

The 2011 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup will be held from September 1 to 11 in Ravenna, Italy with the participation of 16 teams.

It is the third time that the tournament takes place outside of Brazil. However, it is the first the tournament will take place on a biannual basis.
