Former Iran captain Boroumand dies at 83

MNA – TEHRAN, Former Iranian football team captain Amir Masoud Boroumand died of heart problems at the age of 83 on Tuesday night in Tehran.

Boroumand made his debut on October 26, 1947 in a friendly match against Turkey played in Tehran. He scored Iran’s sole goal in a match that his team lost 3-1 to its western neighbors.

He was captain of Iranian football team during the 1950s and steered the team during the 1951 and 1958 Asian Games. Broumand won 13 caps and scored 10 goals for the national team.

Boroumand also played for the Lebanese football team for three years while studying in the country.

He started his football career with Shahbaz in 1945 but joined Shahin one year later where he played for 12 years.

Boroumand will be laid to rest on Friday at the Behesht-e Zahra cemetery in Tehran.
