queiroz_actionPTV – TEHRAN, Former Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz will travel to Iran in April to sign a contract for managing the country’s national football team, reports say.

Queiroz visited Iran in February for talks on steering the Iranian squad but failed to reach an agreement with the Iranian Football Federation (IFF).

The IFF now plans to resume talks with him after he won his appeal against the ban he received for insulting anti-doping agents, and which led to his sacking from Portugal’s national team in September last year.

Queiroz was suspended by the Portuguese anti-doping agency for six months in August after insulting anti-doping officials during their surprise visit to Portugal’s training camp in May before the 2010 World Cup.

The former Real Madrid boss will arrive in Tehran on April 1 to conclude talks with the IFF and take the helm of the Iranian team, Mehr News Agency reported, citing sources close to the IFF.

The 57-year-old coach was Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager at the English club Manchester United before becoming Portugal’s head coach.

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) fired Queiroz in September and replaced him with former Sporting coach Paulo Bento.
