Carlos Queiroz set to sign as Iran’s new manager
A long-running saga that last saw the negotiations with the former Manchester United assistant break down in February now appears set to end, reports Press TV.
His initial decision not to sign on with Team Melli was apparently in large part to his wife’s reluctance to live in the country, though at the time it was also suggested that political unrest was a factor.
Reports that he will now sign come just days after the Court of Arbitration for Sport revoked a six-month ban imposed on the manager by the Portuguese Anti-Doping Authority.
Queiroz received the ban in August after insulting officials sent to drug-test the Portugal squad ahead of the 2010 World Cup.
Able to now return to the sidelines for international matches, it has cleared the path for him to become Iran’s new manager ahead of the start of their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Iran were knocked out of the quarter-finals of the 2011 Asian Cup and have been starved of success in recent times, failing to qualify for the World Cup in South Africa.
