FIFA president expresses condolence over Hejazi’s death
MNA – TEHRAN, FIFA president Sepp Blatter on Wednesday expressed condolence to Iran Football Federation over the sad demise of Nasser Hejazi.
Iran’s legendary football goalkeeper passed away on Monday of lung cancer in Tehran.
Former Esteghlal goalkeeper and coach was buried in Tehran’s Behesht-e Zahra cemetery on Wednesday.
“My heart is full of sadness after hearing that Nasser Hejazi is dead. He gave Iran football team sterling service as a goalkeeper. Hejazi took part twice in the AFC Asian Cup as well as the 1976 Olympic Games. Hejazi also played for Iran football team in the 1978 FIFA World Cup.
“On behalf of FIFA and the worldwide football family, I wish to express my deep sympathy to Iran’s football society and Hajazi’s fans. We stand beside them. Hopefully, his family finds solace and peace with the message,” Blatter wrote in a letter sent to Ali Kaffashian, head of Iran Football Federation on Wednesday.
