Toure leaves Sepahan for UAE’s Ajman
GOAL – ESFAHAN, Prolific Senegalese striker Ibrahima Toure has left Iran champions Sepahan ahead of the AFC Champions League quarter-finals for UAE club Ajman.
The 25-year-old forward was not offered a new contract by Sepahan having scored 36 goals in 51 appearances for the club and guiding them to the 2010-11 Iranian Pro League title.
Toure also played a major part in helping Sepahan reach the 2011 AFC Champions League quarter-finals where they will meet Qatar club Al Sadd in September.
Ajman, who have just been promoted to the UAE top flight, are hoping to challenge for the title in the 2011-12 season.
“He is a very, very good striker and we are expecting a lot from him in the forthcoming season,” said Ajman head of public relations and media Nasr Ibrahim to Sport360.
“Toure has a lot of experience, having won the Iranian league for Sepahan and represented the club in the AFC Champions League.
“We were looking for a player with his credentials and needed a striker with a good record and he is the right man for us. We hope Ajman can have a great season with him leading our attack next season.”
Ajman have already signed Algerian midfielder Karim Kerkar.
