Indonesia to focus on physical fitness
AFC – JAKARTA, Indonesia will focus on physical fitness ahead of their 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifying campaign next month.
The team will train in an isolated camp in Cilegon, Banten, starting Thursday.
“The main problem of our players is their poor stamina and endurance. Therefore, we need a physical trainer in order to repair their VO2 Max (maximal oxygen consumption),” head coach Wilhelmus Rijsbergen said in a statement.
Citing the athletes’ maximum ability in consuming oxygen, which reflects physical fitness, Rijsbergen said team management would soon bring trainers from Europe.
Indonesia were drawn in Group E with Iran, Bahrain and Qatar. They will meet Iran in the opener on September 2 in Tehran.
Indonesia are scheduled to play three friendly matches in August as part of their preparation.
“We cannot unveil the names of the three teams just yet, but we’re trying to get two teams from the Middle East, as their character will be similar with our opponents,” general manager of the national team Arya Abhiseka.
