Osasuna beat Sporting Gijon

PFDC – PAMPLONA, CA Osasuna celebrated a 2-1 home victory over Sporting Gijon in the second round of La Liga on Sunday.

Alvaro Cejudo and Nino scored for the Basques, who remain unbeaten after drawing Atletico Madrid in first round.

None of the two injured Iranian players could participate in the game. Javad Nekounam, who had been injured by Uruguayan striker Sebastian Soria in the Qatar game, reportedly will be back in action sooner than the initially predicted three to four weeks, however, wasn’t ready for the Gijon clash.

Masoud Shojaei, who had been injured last season, is still convalescent and expected to be back in action by the end of October, probably missing Iran’s October 11th World Cup qualifier against Persian Gulf rivals Bahrain.
