bonacicMNA – ESFAHAN, Croatian coach Luka Bonacic parted company with Sepahan football team by mutual agreement, Sepahan officials said on Sunday.

The 56-year-old took charge of Sepahan football team from the start of the Iranian league current season but quit his job after 10 weeks in the wake of poor results. According to some reports, Bonacic was forced to leave after he developed problems with club’s some key players.

Defending champion Sepahan was knocked out of the AFC Champions League last month after Qatar’s Al Sadd defeated the Iranian club 4-2 on aggregate in the quarterfinal round.

The Isfahan-based team had been found guilty of using an ineligible player in the first leg and the disciplinary committee of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) awarded a 3-0 win to the Qatari club. Sepahan beat al Sadd 2-1 in the second leg but failed to advance to the next stage.

Sepahan is fifth on IPL standings table with four points behind pacesetter Naft.

Karim Ghanbari has been named as Sepahan interim coach.
