PFDC – LIER, Iranian striker Reza Ghoochannejhad continues to impress in Belgium. The 24-year-old scored a goal and assited the other in St. Truiden’s 2-0 win over Lierse SK in the Belgian Jupiler League’s round 11 on Saturday.

Struggling STVV opened the scoring after just two minutes when a counter attack over the quick Mashad-born striker was finished off by Daerden.

Lierse were reduced to 10 men after 62 minutes before Ghoochannejhad increased his goal tally to eight when converting a 82nd minute penalty kick, securing the first win of the season for his still bottom placed team and consolodating his second position in the goalscorers’ ranking.

Ghoochannejhad never played for the Iranian national team, but would be eligible for Team Melli and might be a hot candidate for a call-up for the World Cup qualifiers in Bahrain and Indonesia in November.

Iran coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to name his squad for the two games on October 31, which might also include Vfl Wolfsburg’s Ashkan Dejagah.

Dejagah started in his club’s 1-1 against Hamburg on Saturday evening, being subbed out after 55 minutes, a minute before Hamburg’s equalizer.
