Loading...PFDC – ST. TRUIDEN, Reza Ghoochannejhad’s ninth goal of the season helped St. Truiden securing a point against Belgian giants Standard Liege in the country’s Jupiler League on Sunday evening.
The setting of the game – bottom placed STVV hosting a topside – certainly favoured the Dutch-Iranian striker’s skills, who could use his speed, strength and technique in counter attacks repeatedly to create danger already in first half, however, was unlucky not to score.
Four minutes into second half, two defeders could only stop ‘Gucci’ with a foul on the right wing. The following freekick found Ghoochannejhad, who had perfectly gotten rid of his marker, at the far post and was slotted home by the former Heerenveen marksman with his strong left foot.
Standard increased the pressure on St. Truiden and deservingly equalized through Tchité, but STVV held on to the draw.
The club remains on bottom of the table but the gap to a non-relegation spot could be reduced to three points.
Ghoochannejhad consolidated his second rank in the goalscorers’ ranking with only two goals less than leader Jérémy Perbet.
