Persepolis through to quarters at Hazfi Cup [VIDEO]

PTV – ESFAHAN, Defending champion Persepolis has come from behind to defeat Zob Ahan and cruised through to the quarterfinals of Iran’s Hazfi Cup.

The Reds edged past Zob Ahan 3-2 at Isfahan’s Fouladshahr stadium on Sunday, the Mehr news agency reported.

Farshid Talebi scored the opener for Zob Ahan seven minutes into the match but Maziar Zare’ leveled the scoring from the penalty spot in the 17th minute.

With the score tied at the break, Mohammad Hosseini headed home in the 56th minute to give Zob Ahan the lead again, but Amir-Hossein Feshangchi scored the equalizer on the hour mark.

Zare’ scored the winner in the 79th minute of the match to seal the victory for the Reds.

In the quarters, Persepolis will take on the winner of Monday’s match between Esteghlal and Mehr Karaj.

In the other matches of the day, Damash Gilan beat Mashinsazi Tabriz 2-1, Saba Qom downed Mes Sarcheshmeh 5-4 in a penalty shootout, and Shahrdari Yasouj beat Siahjamegan 2-1.

The Hazfi Cup is a knockout cup competition run by the Iranian Football Federation. The competition was not regarded as important by clubs until the Iranian Football Federation decided to award one of Iran’s Asian Football Confederation Champions League spots to the Hazfi Cup champion.
