TEHRAN TIMES – TEHRAN, Hamid Estili stepped down as the coach of Persepolis after Esteghlal knocked the team out of Iran’s Hazfi Cup.

Persepolis lost to Esteghlal 3-0 in a quarterfinal match of Iran’s Hazfi Cup at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Friday.

“I wish all the best for the coach who will replace me at Persepolis. I did my best during my career with the team, but I have to say it’s time to go,” Estili said during the post-match news conference.

Estili was appointed as Persepolis coach at the beginning of the season but was forced to quit after poor results in the Iranian Professional League and the Hazfi Cup.

The Hazfi Cup winner gets an automatic berth to the Asian Football Confederation Champions League.
